a day of great fortune
a day of great fortune
I've been doing my wash... and to my great surprise all my socks have been accounted for after going thru the drying cycle.
I realize that won't mean much to most of you, but I never speak to the "most" anyway... but those that have been thru the frustration of missing a sock or two, this should prove that on rare occasions there is a reason to take a seat in front of the monitor, place your fingers appropriately on the keyboard and proceed to make you announcement to the enraptured reading public on your favorite internet website.
I'm drying my darks as I write, anxiously awaiting the outcome of all my dark clothes - will all my shirts or even my pants also be accounted for..? Yessir, Monday's are made for washing... and prattling on about such mundane shit.
Carry on... or is that carrion?

a wash day that concludes with all socks present and accounted for is a day of celebration. I hope you did just that.
I believe "carry on" is a piece of luggage you can haul with you onto the airplane... I believe you must mean carrion. this being a scavenger, and since it appears you have managed to get through your laundry without him scavenging anything. It is now safe to call him in from outdoors.

there are gremlins that reside in clothes dryers
they are the evil little ones that turn your socks inside out
or hide them. The only way to thwart the little bastards is to have an ample supply of socks. I'm wearing two pair right now, so my socks are fine but I just noticed that I've been wearing my watch upside down for about a week.

I found solutions to the Gremlin problem at boarding school -- put your socks in a mesh bag with knotted drawstring... have someone else do your laundry and berate them if some are missing ... throw your used socks in the trash ... buy a thirty day supply, use them for 60 days, buy another thirty day supply...beat the snot out of your existing sock pairs and promise them more of the same if they fail to appear after washing and drying...use gloves instead of socks...don't wear socks...and the number one solution for one of the guys across the hall??? ---- wear panty hose.
Carpe Delirium
Whenever I lose a sock in the wash, I just throw the straggler back in my laundry basket for next time. I don't know how or why it happens, but usually in the next wash or two, his friend will reappear, and I'll have a whole set of socks again. Only occasionally will a wanderer not return to the fold.
Maybe socks have a version of that Amish custom where the teenagers go out for a year into the modern world and then decide if they want to come back home or turn their back on the Amish way.
