Reflection in a cloud?

Post by hester_prynne » August 30th, 2008, 2:33 am

Macho thin.
And the dude had a
high voice too,
when he was out of
his indulgences.
I ran into him one night,
in an alley on first avenue.
I remember it was raining,
how shiny the dirty brick road was
under the streetlights.
It was my element.
My home...where I slept
with other lost souls.
Smartmouth didn't last long there.
His sharp little jokes
didn't amuse us fatties.
His tales of injustice
wore too much
costume jewelry
for us gems.
That little fucker
used to interrupt moonlight
when she'd
beam on the river
just for us!
We'd snicker,
wonder,
how did narcissus
see his reflection in a cloud?
He cried when we ate the cookies
his mama sent him.
He was the skinny boy
on the beach.
Pretending not to be
who he was.
Sometimes his protruding bones
made us hungry.
He left after a few months.
We hardly remember him.
But those cookies were
sure good.
"I am a victim of society, and, an entertainer"........DW

HA!
a good rib roast sounds great but I always have had a weak spot for cookies!

Love it!

nice style - hip, but somehow tragic - reminds me of nathaniel west's day of the locust.

..'his tales of injustice wore too much costume jewelry'...

.. a poem that tells a tale, makes one view and re-view.

For some reason I keep thinking of a motormouth GOP drone decked out in flag lapel pins trying to pose with Gulf Coast hurricane victims... I gotta shut off that damned teevee. Nice, Hest.
