i saw jack kerouac
spinning in his grave
i saw a monkeyshines
fighting time
spinning on a broken dime
outlet muscles tensing rhymes
in palindromic spits and fines
and i saw jack kerouac
spinning in his grave
spector ghosts by dripping roadsides
taking thumbs out to the drones
disingenuous craps and cones
riverboat turning coats
and voting booths on diner shores
and i saw jack kerouac
spinning in his grave
rolling over things to say
putting pieces on display
testing waters with his toes
open-ended panic throes
mixing words so no one knows
piston engines wanting whys
and pretending no one dies
and i saw jack kerouac
spinning in his grave

and i saw jack kerouac
spinning in his grave
coming up with funny claims
assessing everyone's fucked up names
misdirected jokes all sound the same
feathers train water drains
and window panes
and weathervanes
sock top bobby flop
sneaking down the soda pop
asps in the alley
hissing headlines in the rain
royal baby boomers trip
while all the losers sneak a sip
hiding in backdoor cockfights
thinking of jack kerouac
spinning in his grave
thinking of franklin roosevelt
spinning in his grave
thinking of tallman lincoln
twisting in the wind
thinking of jimmy carter
buried in the sand
thinking of new blow jobs
and ways to earn a buck
thinking of selling shoes
in the summer
thinking of counting pennies
in the gutter
thinking of mourning children
sprawled and bloodsoaked
for causes undone
and beds unmade
cotton candy
torn and frayed
and i saw jack kerouac
spinning in his grave

and i saw jack kerouac
spinning in his grave
i had a mist
of little lists
scrawled in paper ink
i threw away
the debts i made
and tried hard not to think
while skateboard punks
ripped their heads apart
pounding on their heart
cursing with privilege
for a start
and i listened to jack kerouac
spinning in his grave
while poets proclaimed love and more
of the stuff up off the basement floor
wanting more
tallying with tic tacs
and i saw jack kerouac
spinning in his grave
and i climbed down the stairs
for another hope
broken slope
while aged whores spun the score
of a universal play
that closed down years ago
to everyone's delight
in spite
and i saw jack kerouac
spinning in his grave
so i'll wait
with words
unchosen
spinning in my grave
