The LK Book features the Knipster?? and the brilliance of MtyMind? Whoa, now there are some reasons to buy that gem. And plus the pic of Scoot, pre--re-hab?
NOT
Call it my loss if you like but the truth of the matter is,
I think it's wasted potential. ...Just like litkicks has sadly become.
Credible people would make the effort to read a work in question before making a comment on it's quality or lack thereof.
Since niether of the people quoted above admitted to actually reading it before they proffered their effete down-the-nose opinions one can only rationally decide to disregard their assessment and opinions as less than informed.
Would they expect someone to actually consider their remarks as valid based soley on the fact that they saw the cover but didn't even read the forward, let alone the entire book?
It appears they do.
Great insight Perfessor Scootski, but you might recall that LitKicks was an online writing site and the selections had already been posted online, had they not, Doc? Yes, let's be civil, but if one had skimmed the appropriate page on LK (in 12/03-1/04, featuring the 3 favorite poems) one would have most likely encountered the selected works. TO be honest, regardless of my objections to Asher, Inc. I hope the book is a success for the folks included in it. You might even get enough change to buy your favorite Tofu, Sprouts n Astroglide pizza at BodhiDharma's Cozmic Cafe, man.
Indeed, Scoot.
The fact that I've been an avid writer and reader on litkicks for several years, as well as given loads and loads of earnest feedback to many of the amazing writers there, and in private email connections, renders me totally not credible in my feelings about the litkicks book.
heh.
uh yeah.
uh wha???????
Well, to you perhaps. I could see that coming from you.
It's hateful and hurtful and not very well or broadly thought out.
Sigh.
I'm sure the day will come when I will have my own copy, when I can afford it. I'd love to peruse it. Maybe you could let me borrow your copy! Do you have one? Did Karen buy you one? Bless her heart.
It's been pretty clear that I'm in a financial crunch, with just a part time job's salary paying the bills, Thanksgiving coming up, and then Christmas. YIKES! Hell, I don't even have a credit card to buy one with!. (Unlike you Scoot, I am responsible for my keep. I have no keeper like you do. I couldn't let something like that go on in my life for sure! You know that!)
My dear Scoot, in your vigor for defense of the book, (because it has your picture on it, and I understand you want everyone to see, heck I wanna see it too!), you again overlook the obvious and make a pompous fool of yourself, trying to make fools of others. But that's your gig and it always was at litkicks right?
This last post of yours seems a little lame though scoot. Hope you ain't losin that "ummmph" we all love so much.

I bought two, Hest, as my way of trying to support the community. I didn't need two.
LR suggested we put one on E-bay (heh) but if you want it, I'll be happy to send it to you.
I truly wish them the best of luck with the marketing and distribution of the book.
Hell, I might send you both of them. Would that be helping with distribution? I get upset when I think of the place because they told me to get lost and I was told some things about my participation there which really hurt my feelings.

Aw Knip, you're so kind, and very talented too. I always liked your poems, but I didn't see many of them on litkicks.
I think it's great that you are in the book as long as you are happy with it. I'll be looking forward to seeing what's in there of yours, and everyone else's too...that will be a groovy trip!
My Peeps in print! Yeeehawww!
I just personally don't like it, it's not my style. No attraction to it at all, I've tried. I think it could have been way better!
It's like singing country music when you're a jazz singer! Christ, I've done enough of that to get by, chicken wire fence and all.
Maybe I'm a snob!
Maybe that's the only reason I don't like the book.
Or one of the reasons I suppose.
I'm hardly perfect.
It just strikes me as "Tacky".
Christ, do I have to like the book?
Can't I just like you?
Heh
Big Smoochie Knipster!

Pfffttt, more of the same. Unfounded, untrue and completely unrelated to anything remotely associated with discussing the book. But then the non pompous, delusional and self righteous have to say at least something when called upon to qualify a judgement call upon something they hav'nt even read...My dear Scoot, in your vigor for defense of the book, (because it has your picture on it, and I understand you want everyone to see, heck I wanna see it too!), you again overlook the obvious and make a pompous fool of yourself, trying to make fools of others. Geez Doreen, that is really nice of you! I would like to look at it.
But it makes me even madder the way you were treated by those folks and so there I go again, just thinkin, why bother?
I doubt if I had the book that i'd actually keep it. If you want to distribute the books, you could send them to me, I could look, and read every word, (heh), and then I could take them down to the local bookstore and tell him to sell it....turn him on to it....it could sell, there are lots of folks here in podunk who might dig it. Anyway, then I could send you the dough for the books after they sell! Whaddya think? Course, if Scooter has a copy and can get off his high horse, maybe he'd just let me see the one he's got.
Damn Doreen, they must be plenty jealous of you at litkicks. I can't believe anyone in their right mind would do that to you.
Buncha idiots they are.
Weird and downright small.
grrrrrrrr

Sicne the LK pissfest seems to be continuing, I must say that the thing that bugs me the most about the book ( and the site) is that Asher and his crew gals are so petty minded and arrogant that they would not publish something by someone they did not like or whose "ideology" or supposed personality they disapproved of. A writer or poet might be objectionable in character, or not wealthy or popular, or politically misguided but editorial types should be willing to set that aside and judge writing on its merits, not on its "hipness" quotient or even political quality. I may not approve of a TS Eliot's or a Sharon Olds' politics nor of their character, but I am willing to admit they are both effective writers. Asher and his chickies seem to be unwilling to make that Engl 101 move away from the biographical. (and some of my pieces were nominated though not selected, since "troll" was stamped on my s-names whenever I logged in. Not that I really care, since LK is a scam and Asher a corrupt dirtphuck, and his gals bubblegummy freaks who wouldn't know decent writing if it had batteries in it).
I agree, pere-frere they seem like alot of christians over there anymore, glued to their comfort zones, and if your comfort zone is different than theirs, forgetaboutit.
It wasn't always that way.
I took the litkick writers and the litkicks site very seriously. It really meant something to me. It got me writing again. I posted my own work there, shared myself, if you will. It was exciting! I wasn't just playing around all the time, nor were many others.
This is why I think that the litkicks bookcover is a smug slap in the face to everyone. It misses the point.
And scootertrash on the back? Haw Haw! He's not even a writer! He's nothing but a blowhard phony picture, drummed up to get attention! And not, I remind you, attention for any writing. More for the laff riot effect, to the degree of hurting people at times. I guess that's considered "cute"? by some.
I'm not into "cute" much. It generally does nothing for me but get old fast.
It is certainly not the marketing angle that I believe the book deserved. It deserved better, way way better. They just didn't get it.
It's as simple as that.

hest- jealous? nah... no way! what's to be jealous about? I guess they just don't like me. I donno. I'm just me! It's not my problem. I'm just fine with who I am. (send me your address and I'll put one in the mail to you.)

ok... you guys, could you do me a favor, please? This conversation is getting a little... umm.. how shall I say it? Well... sort of....ridiculing..
(I know you hate this, peresozo, but I'm going to say it anyway...)
Could we all just "be nice"?
Everybody... ok?
I think it's fine to critique a book. But I'm not too hip on people slamming each other or slamming other people when they're not even here to defend themselves. Even if they were, I don't like it.
I hate getting slammed, myself. It isn't fun.
So critique all you want, but leave the slams out, please, and also please....please... be kind to each other. OK?
I think that's "doable."
Nothing phoney about it.

Doreen, I'll pm you my addy.....pm me yours would you, so's I can send out that cd. Finally. I'm just gonna send it to you for keeps.....I can have more made now, cuz I got it saved on a friends machine. It was there the whole time and I didn't even know it. Christ, I need an agent. I'm just really bad about PR and stuff.
I really so appreciate you sending this book.
I feel like such an idiot not being able to afford one, but, c'est la vie! It'll get better, I keep telling myself that, and socking away whatever extra I have for Stella at Christmas. That's my money MO these days.....
And just for the record, I have to say, that the way you've been treated by litkicks is astounding and just plain wrong.
I can't believe it.
Im just shaking my head here......
sigh
H
PS, I hear you about the book discussion and I really am not wanting to slam anyone, although I felt sorta slammed by scooter.
I just have my opinions. That's all they are, my opinions. Take em or leave em I say!
