Analyzing-the-poetry-jam-at-arcanum thread
judih, mark, Dor and clay, et alli
I have a vision:
A semi-spontaneous party action poetry jam lasting over a span of days for those that claim to be too busy, a gathering of tribe(s) with outbreaks of lunacy, Tuesday, September 28, fool moon in Aries (new beginnings), with Mercury (communications) in Libra (talk about all sides), 2nd quarter moon (head 'em up, move 'em out!) It all starts around 9am eastern US time and runs until it runs its' course and folks start packing up and going home. That may be days, weeks, decades... A party with a 'cosmic clown' theme (hate 'em or join 'em) The village has a fool that hides his gold beneath his scorn. The Pied Piper will arise and lead us to the sea where we will drown in ecstasy.
WoW, did I 'see' that? I guess I did, so you can see it too? Perhaps...
I am not volunteering for anything except participation and chips and salsa. I see Rod (thy staff and comfort) as Master of Ceremonies, the Pied Piper who has no thing better to do than herd rats. I see us, the participants coming with open minds (or even empty ones). I see it happening at Freedom Hall where *you can say anything you want* at Rod's Rest-au-Rant. I see the troll under the bridge when you pass being his gruff self and part of the part-ee. I see threads floating in the air, rising and falling like balloons, some are dank and dark, some airy, all seeking the light.
That's enough...
Do you see it too? Can you see it too?

hi sooZ
though i respect your lovely vision, i see it being quite confusing trying to follow a Poetry Jam thread at freedom hall, especially if you set a date and time to be there because those who would wish to disrupt will definitely see the announcement and arrive to do just that .... and our eyes and stamina would have major difficulties attempting to follow the chaos of troll threads popping up top, kicking the Poetry Jam thread to the bottom
huge threads which go the entire page can be kicked up top with one post... then users would have to scroll down through a sea of nonsense posts to try to find where they were posting
the only way this could work, in my opinion, would be to start with a clean board over there.... either delete everything that's on there already or make a new forum entirely, using the voy forum software, for the sole purpose of the Poetry Jam.
lovely vision, SooZ...
though i understand your passion for a date relative to astrology, i don't think a tuesday would work nearly as well as a saturday or sunday..... we found this out on Friday at AC when people said they fit in what they could but they were at work and wanted to be there more, but couldn't...... a weekend would work better for most because many people work during the week
coming in at different times is ok... it works.... but i think having more people online at the same time creates a more dynamic experience
i think we should make a whole new board called Poetry Jam for this purpose... and set a time when the most people can be there.

Another idea-
I know the push is to go to open thread software, but here's an idea for using this software, too....
We could set up a Studio called "Poetry Jam" and set the moderators for that forum as SooZ, judih, and Wireman
or one of you or two of you, whatever you want
Then, you can schedule Poetry Jams in that Studio whenever you like and set it up however you want, with whatever focus, whatever type of announcement you want.... and the software would archive all the Poetry Jams you host
just an idea
if you're interested, let me know.
(PS- the Go! forum is already set up for ongoing spontaneous collaborative writing but that's a slower thing, like people come in whenever they want.... for the Poetry Jam Studio, it would be a scheduled event)

one more thing... sooZ... if you go ahead with your idea for that date and time and location, i think it's very cool...
i was just expressing my opinion about my own enjoyment level at that particular location
the coolest thing is to see poetpeople excited about doing something fun like this.... no matter where, no matter what time, no matter what!
so, GO for it!
(LR's talking about either creating a new voy forum for the Jam or wiping the slate clean and starting all over at freedom hall..... whatever works....as long as we can have fun and write!)

yes dor, after i enthusiastically agreed to hang out at the Hall, i popped over and couldn't help but notice a definite lack of regulation people.
how many variations on names are possible? (rhetorical question. answer is: infinite)
so a clean slate would be nice.
Poetry Jam forum is interesting. As mod, would i have power to delete or move obvious saboteurs? By 'saboteur' i mean the kind that has no intended jam effect except for a log jam.

judih...yeah, it's a mess over there and i'm not sure what is available in regards to managing that software better... starting with a clean slate would be the only way it would work, in my opinion... LR's looking into it
in addition to that, if you wanted to establish a Studio here to do Poetry Jams here regularly, as a moderator, you'd have the button to move threads to another forum and also the button to delete posts.... so if someone tried to sabotage it, with several of us online with those buttons, available, i don't think there would be a problem
So, for example's sake, if it was set up something like this..
Title of Studio - LIVE Poetry Jams
Description - Join us for spontaneous writing
Threads-
1- Announcement- you describe what the jams are about and how they will be scheduled regularly... maybe list the upcoming dates and times... hmmm... [add a note?- This forum is set aside for scheduled Poetry Jams. Other threads or posts will be moved or removed]
2- Poetry Jam October 10th (arbitrary date)
3- Poetry Jam December 2nd (arbitrary date)
and so on...
or give the Jams different names for each jam?
but it just hit me that this would be cool to have the ones we do here (if you like the idea to do them here sometimes) archived in one place and since you and sooZ and wireman all seem so enthusiastic about this, you could have control of planning them and doing them the way you want
just an idea...
you guys tell me what you want and i'll set it up for you if you decide to do it here
in the meantime, as i said, LR's working on figuring out how to use the other software, too, to do some of these and get it set up for the date sooZ picked, if that's what you all decide to do.
looking forward to whatever comes from this and hearing everybody's ideas

..........I wiredly recommend we do all of the above.....I'll be there with my arsenal of words to shout it out at the freedom hall on tuesday the 28th and I'll be here on a new board that we all create at sudio8.....we are poetry explorers and I feel we have to taste all the options......perhaps we will all be surprised.....and perhaps soon, maybe even sooner than we realize we can create a live jam spot......I mean a spot that would be a real open mike with the participants layin' it down live on camera and when ya go to a club to read we can all see that poet live or taped .......the technology is here and we all could do it.......for now let's keep puttin' these word jams together ....they are a blast and to hell with the trolls we will ride over them like a tusanami......like a typhoon ........roll over em like a word hurricane for we have the power...it's in our words........wired mark
Hi folks...
Well, weekends are kinda out for me (I am away at shows) and I figured with how many people on Litkicks wrote everyday while they were at work, a poem or two would be possible. This date just jumped out at me, as did the vision...
The rest will have to be up to someone else... I don't want to moderate a board and I think if judih does, that's super and she would be a great moderator. Like I said, if it's a date I can attend and am not out of town or at a show, I will be there bopping!
I figured Rod would make a good moderator because he will tolerate most anything and it was his site that has the open forum. I am going to go with the flow where ever it goes...
Just let me know.
BTW (by the way) Dor, I have been studying astrology for about 40 years... There is a science and an art to it. The interpretation is the art (and good interpreters are rare) for what happens in the 'heavens' happens, the stars, the planets, the constellations travel across the sky and are charted by astronomers. They (these planetary bodies) were all at a certain place when you or I were born and our chart is the map of the energy we experienced/breathed in at the moment of our births, we are imprinted with this energy. It is the world's oldest science. I know you take it with a grain of salt and that is a good thing for some of the world's greatest astrologers started out as disbelievers and out to prove it false. Most people that pooh pooh astrology don't know a bit about it, truly. End of astrology lecture, Hah!
Now...as Mark said, let the chips fall...and let's have a ball!

well, that's out for me...i don't dig chips, never have.let the chips fall
But poetry jam is something else.
My weekend is Friday/Saturday. Saturday night is night before school, so it looks like any other day. In fact any day is good for me, night is a little less good.
Open jam says it best. Whoever's there is there and lays down whatever comes.
It doesn't take much to get the juices flowing - just a brilliant come-on and the right timing.
So saying, i admit that i'm heading into a 2 week vacation from school and i intend to pump my word fires and catch the exhaust on paper.
be-ware
judih
(and yeah, i'll be happy to moderate a jam thread, since i expect that to involve ridiculously little moderation)

sooZ - i wasn't pooh-poohing astrology when i talked about changing the day... i was just thinking more people could be there on another day... but if you can't be there on weekends, then let's not do it on a weekend ... the date you picked sounds fine with me
as far as which forum.. you guys name it, i'll be there .. if it's Freedom Hall, that's fine.... go for it...
Do you want LR and I to make an announcement which sticks up at the top of the page on this forum? (unfortunately, we are the only ones able to make such announcements here). Chips won't fall unless it's announced.
judih - as for this site, i wasn't talking about a one time thing... i was talking about a regular forum here to have such events... please let me know if that interests you
... so here we are, then... we're going to do it again? Woohoo!
It's in the stars!
LIVE Open Poetry Jam
Come any time you want
Starts at ___AM? ___PM?
On Tuesday, September 28th
at Freedom Hall?
Let's DO it! Looking forward to it
(my time spent there will depend on my workload that day and the other factors I mentioned before....)
(who's gonna fill in the time blanks?
)

umm... i'm back
i just went over to freedom hall to take a look because we were talking about cleaning the posts out and i wanted to take a look and so i did and there's some asshole over there making fun of my health issues... and it's not funny and i'm easily offended about sensitive issues soooooo....
unless there's a way to clean out the posts AND moderate the board over there, i'm not going to be able to go because i don't need to subject myself to that.... i love me too much
some things just can't be handled with wit and a sharp tongue and i've decided long ago not to put myself in situations on purpose which i know will be detrimental to me, emotionally
but I'll be happy to announce the event here for you all and i hope it turns out fabulously!

O Dor, I am so sorry about that nut. I think it is obviously someone we may think we know well and don't, because he certainly knows who we are and likes to poke our soft spots. I can certainly understand your not wanting to be attacked by some idiot who has nothing better to do than be destructive.
Forget Freedom Hall, the jam wouldn't be the same without your jammin'. Unless Rod can either clean out the space or create a new one, I say, let's do it here. My opinion is that you make an announcement here (and MOOLs, etc), we all let our friendly writers know...I am going to invite some friends that write but have never used this kind of forum. Start at 9am Eastern or after (astrology, hah!). Set up a party board and let's rock!
Also Dor, forgive me for the astrology lesson, that happens to be one of my sore spots,
In rereading your post, I found I over-reacted. (not the first time, probably not the last) So, give me a blanket of forgiveness, heh?
Anybody else have an opinion?
SooZ

assholes? no thanks
i like the power that comes with moderation. i also like the fact that one post can be deleted with this bulletin board...not the whole thread. (so we don't have to suffer the agonies of the litkicks sudden wipe-out technique)
So, a Poetry Jam forum here. i volunteer to be a moderator. Cool to welcome mark and whoever else would like to have the touch.
September 28 is good. One week from today. Tuesday is considered a lucky day according to hebrew thought ("twice as good" according to tradition)
nine a.m. est is nice. afternoon for me - and then off into the evening and beyond.
sounds great
