Mars,

That's one of the best posts I've ever read on this board.

Are you still in Norman?

I been trying to do my homework and get back to you all. Meanwhile I have been finding some usefull information.
I am having posters remorse about this one below. Kind of funny but maybe inappropriate for this string which I was not joking. I have thought for many years that I did not have a soul. Or if I did have one it was atavistic. Like my little toe. Slowy being evolved out of existence. A new breed of souless humans coming like George W Bush. They are the meek who will inheirit the earth.

We Want Your Soul
A Fantastic Opportunity

"Unlike with traditional, one-off "secured soul-owner loans", with WWYS® the customer is GUARANTEED a monthly CASH SUM for LIFE. All that is required of the customer is that he or she has a day job, specifically one that precludes the possibility of acting in any way that may be construed as soul- or life-affirming. If the customer chooses retirement at age 65 (minimum, preferably 75), the customer's (by then redundant) soul will be deemed worthless. The customer is therefore advised to take out a WWYS® pension plan, which may or may not guarantee a monthly cash sum of around a quarter to a third of soul-value at the time the policy started."

I got side tracked on atavism. Found this

Will The Opposable Thumb Become The Appendix Of The Future?

What happens when the great gift of Newton, The Calculus, has, in its very success, built a platform for predictability which may be an illusion? And what happens when, in spite of the crush of data being brought to fix the breach in the Darwinian dike, Lamarck may have been right? The human species, like the spinning skater who has lost the fixed point used for balance and stability, is out of control. Rather than seeking another fixed point, a model of reality must be quickly erected which allows for a dynamic and moving mark which provides stability through change.

If you say so
How can you run out of souls when people are dying all the time....
But there are more people alive today than have ever existed in all history. If you added up the number of people who have ever existed, the population today would be far in excess of every one who had ever been born and died.

I was googling around on 9/11 conspiracy theories when I came across one that said Bush was a souless death lizard from outter space. Made me wonder how he keeps it together. No anguish no concern. Gone fishing, fiddling while Rome burns and New Orleans drowns. I started wondering if he really was a souless monster. Everything is metaphor I suppose. I feel like I live in the penthouse of my brain, and their are things happening down in the basement that I don't want to know, but that I better face if I want to move on.

Nothing special is right. The Dali Lama said, "nothing we do is important, it is only important that we do it" paraphrase from
memory.

I am not a soldier either, but I tried to enlist but they would not take me so I became a conscientious objector. Don't pay me much mind I am certified 4Fcrazy courtesy of my selective service board.

I am tempted to delete this stupidy.

I sit watching a cat walk by and I wonder what is my life worth compared to it. All those people in New Orleans worried about their pets. If I died tomorrow there would be a lot of paper work involved, the coroner, the cops, the undertaker, Social Security, lawyers, insurance agents. If the cat died then somebody would throw him in a dumpster. I suppose that is because my life is more important than his.

I hope to get back here with something more worth while to say.
Meanwhile:
Thank you all for taking the time to reply. It has been helpful. Thank you

Dam it
Am I senile? I was searching my brain for a word I heard in a comparative anatomy course I took forty-five years ago. The word I that came to mind was atavistic. Something just didn’t jive. Now I just remembered the word I was searching for is vestigial not atavistic. Is the human soul becoming a vestige? Are we evolving into soulless monsters? A brave new world.

i know about our electromagnetic feild, i actually think out of a lot of people i'm more sensitive to it then most, but that says nothing about there being a soul.

I think George W Bush's magnetic poles have shifted. His south pole is now where his head shoud be. ==

K&D: my model of "soul" is whatever it is that puts intents like gravitation, magnetism, inertia, spatiality, and everything else into effect. Science has a How for all of those things, but not a Why. We don't know Why gravitation happens, only How it does. The "soul" (really a bad word for it; people have spoiled the word) I'm talking about is an infinite super-existent something, something that encompasses and in fact Is the entire universe (space and whatnot being only one of countless expressions that this soul-energy has). The individual soul is a single cell, so to speak, among this infinite mass (for lack of a better word), but is in contact with all the rest of the mass, because they're all in the same place -- nowhere. The black thunderbolt in the dark void.

The main problem here is that there is no exact word for what I'm talking about. Spirit, soul, energy, none of them really point at exactly what I'm talking about.

But the fact of the matter is, certainty is a delusion (because: the universe is infinitely more mysterious than we give it credit for. No logic can argue against that point, the evidence is too strong). I don't *believe* any of this stuff I'm talking about. I can't afford to *believe* anything. I act as if I do, but I have to be ready to drop the shoe that doesn't fit as soon as it doesn't fit. I have to actively acquiesce but without believing. Which isn't to say that I always manage it. I'm not perfect. (but hopefully with work I can become exceptional)

Talking about right or wrong in regards to belief is useless, because certainty is delusion.
I'm not even certain about that.
Anyway, blah blah blahblah blah
Why are you paying attention to me? I read comic books.

LR: thanks! After I posted it, I started wondering if I was being at all comprehensible. These days, sometimes I'm not.
I'm not in Norman right now, haven't been since about March. Got evicted from my apartment and had to move back down to Eufaula, where I got my first job, working in a general store. I used to fantasize about living in a shack somewhere where I could chop wood and carry water. Now I've realized that chopping wood and carrying water has nothing to do with wood or water.
The store has a branch in Norman. If I can move in with Buck & Clint, I'm gonna see about getting transferred to the Norman location. Either that, or I'm going to learn how to apparate to Norman in the blink of an eye so I can go anytime I want. :)

These days I get up somewhere between 11AM and 1PM, go to work, get off work at 8:30PM, then stay up 'til about 4AM on my front porch reading books and smoking cigarettes. I don't have internet access, so I have to come to the library and use their computers. Hence my sporadic presence

hester: thanks to you too
I have to admit that, although it's a thought that I've thought for quite some time, the phrasing isn't mine. It's from Castaneda.

Yes I suppose that is how I feel
but soul is a useful metaphor for me
for that void within me that I am barely conscious of.

Mousey not to change the subject but thinking of shoes, how come you never see two shoes lying in the road, it is only one that I ever see?

Watch out little mousey I think I saw a puddy cat.

Have noticed those whiskers on KD's avatar :)

i love cats, i think its all mind too, but do use the term soul as a metaphore as well.

its hard to change ones mind on this subject matter, after one develops there own opinion.

I think I have two souls too. One is light and soft as chamois leather and the other is black as Darth Vader. I've been trying for years to rip the black one off because it keeps tripping me up too.
