I'd like to take a bath
with Sylvia Plath
but she'd say
is everybody kool?
quonset hut doctors and nurses and pilots
and a poster of Nixon sitting on the stool
puffing a joint an says, debate style,
"Let's make everything clear"
the renegade pilot is pulling out joint after joint from his pocket
smoking drank a glass of schothhhtch
later Buddha shot an AK-47 straight up
into the night in the quonset hut courtyard
and the major asked,
"Did you enjoy your marijuana?"
My brother wuz a 21 yearold trucker
drove his 60 cadillac to flagstaff
drove through Navaho and Hopi
he had a good smile.
with Sylvia Plath
but she'd say
avuncular momentI am too pure for you or anyone.
Your body
Hurts me as the world hurts God. I am a lantern ----
My head a moon
Of Japanese paper, my gold beaten skin
Infinitely delicate and infinitely expensive.
Does not my heat astound you. And my light.
All by myself I am a huge camellia
Glowing and coming and going, flush on flush.
I think I am going up,
I think I may rise ----
The beads of hot metal fly, and I, love, I
Am a pure acetylene
Virgin
Attended by roses,
By kisses, by cherubim,
By whatever these pink things mean.
Not you, nor him.
Not him, nor him
(My selves dissolving, old whore petticoats) ----
To Paradise.

a huge wind just blew me down
draft? pour on the kerosene
i sense a well-lit crusade comin on
so, it was a kibbutz
ya spoke of
not the old days all for one
home grown all nighters
but today's circling drum
beat, open mic kibbutz
talk in large strokes
open opinions
head to the grindstone
round and round
pass it on
ya know a swamp when ya cross it
ya hold the ooze in yer shoes
and pray for a hot water shower
ya know a cannon ball when ya hear it
ya hold your heart in your coat
and chant that all's okay
pass it on
this too will be a memory

Gregorio D'Allessario the beginning life drawing teacher
at the Art Students League in New York City
used to say, "Keep your head in the clouds and your feet on the ground."
That's pure kundalini.
He also said,
"if you err, err on the side of spirit."

three wise men
and not a woman among 'em
it was michelle shocked
who sang " there's no more water
for the prodigal daughter"
a persian nativity scene
or maybe it's from syria
there is a christian egyptian
near here with a coffee shop
and hookahs and tobacco
he told me the different names
of hookahs across the region
Main Entry: myrrh
Pronunciation: 'm&r
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English myrre, from Old English, from Latin myrrha, from Greek, of Semitic origin; akin to Arabic murr myrrh
: a yellowish brown to reddish brown aromatic gum resin with a bitter slightly pungent taste obtained from a tree (especially Commiphora abyssinica of the family Burseraceae) of eastern Africa and Arabia; also : a mixture of myrrh and labdanum

Main Entry: frank·in·cense
Pronunciation: 'fra[ng]-k&n-"sen(t)s
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English fraunk encense, from Old French franc encens, from franc (perhaps in sense "of high quality") + encens incense
: a fragrant gum resin from trees of a genus (Boswellia of the family Burseraceae) of Somalia and southern coastal Arabia that is an important incense resin and was used in ancient times in religious rites and in embalming

they taught us new words like
"expletive deleted" and
"nittering nabobs of negativism"
it's impossible
a clean break is/was necessary

Wrong Turn at Damascus

(with thanks to PMS Eliot)
'A cold coming we had of it,
Just the worst time of the year
For a road trip, and such a long road trip:
The ways whacked and the weather sharp,
The very dead of winter.'
And the camels stalled, sore-footed, we made a wrong turn
at Damascus, fought with some
wop soldiers, and then Curly saw that light,
we made it in and it was
bee-u-ti-full
Panama Gold, mirth, and insence
they took the road less travelled by
and did wonder what if
they'd taken t'other?
myths hang on for a millenium or two
what next?
