Damn man. They say this record was made (with the help of the Dust Brothers) as a sort of homesick love letter to New York City while the Beasties were in "exile" in LA...
Mostly its just a groove-- a dense, layered kickass groove...
love that "waxin' & milkin'" line in "Looking down the barrel of a gun"...

Found a great old Lee Scratch Perry compilation disc ("Voodoo i sm") today at a used CD/record store; I've wanted it for awhile, but it's out of print... lots of great old rarities. "Mash Down", by Roots is excellent, as is "Foundation Dub", Scratch's reworking of the Hombres' "Africa"... good stuff throughout, and that trademark Black Ark studio thick lo fi sound... niceness indeed...

Ejamplo:anything Live at the Village Vanguard (I am picky about jazz, but everyone seems to sound good when they played there)
a bit of Ministry
a bit of Pavement
Thurston crooning "The Diamond Sea" (which is the best song ever and Lee sing-talking "Skip Tracer" (as Lee is God)
Jeff Buckley- Sketches for My Sweetheart (who died too soon)
a bit of French or Portuguese music
might switch from Frank Black to Cramps. who knoweth
more hours listening to too many bands to mention. Crunchy granola jam bands. Trapped in the 80's and 90's. And no one's list can be complete without Dexy's Midnight Runners. Bill Hicks is not music, but I'll make him music. Oops, time's up.
And I am thinking about Elliot Smith. Not listening to him, but thinking about him as a person.
