Speaking of crunching the numbers.... give some serious thought to our own Military/Industrial/Fear complex and all that survive from the benefits. The vast majority of Americans are directly or indirectly dependent upon this 'machine of war' that has given us our 'Way of Life' that we so 'freely' enjoy (while the rest of the world becomes more fearful of us).
As long as our public has something to fear, the madness will continue. We are helpless to do the alternative to our fear-mongering... it won't pay off. The rich must get richer at the sacrifice of all others below their per-annum incomes, and fear pays very well (even Hollywood knows that!). Love, peace and charity...? Jesus and all others that preached those lines were itinerant preachers who were poor! Disgraceful! Do we really want our futures to be like that? We've learned to not give away anything that won't make us a buck. Peace, Love and Charity are give-aways that don't pay the bills... but war! now that is the great money making endeavor. The U.S. has become the masters of that thru the wallets of it's fearful and submissive public.

If Israel really just was aiming to nip things in the bud, if Israel is that protective of it's citizens it will be less offensive than if somehow it comes to light that it's all a manipulation by some really errant thinking entity from afar.......

Alright, I've calmed down now. I came across as a holier-than-thou know-it-all, perhaps. Perhaps I shouldn't comment at all, because (A) I don't live there, and (B), I don't have a concrete solution to offer, other than maximum possible restraint by all parties involved. Yes, I know.... a difficult concept in a delirious, delusional, instant-heaven sort of world environment. "Turn the other cheek" was never a big seller for Jesus.
Alright, I admit. For the people of Israel living under constant threat of attack, perhaps that comment isn't fair, or even a misguided cheap shot. Alright. Point taken. Thing is, the heavy-handed approach does more to strengthen Islamic extremism than curb it, or "teach it a lesson". The Soviets found this out in Afghanistan, the U.S. is finding it out in Iraq, and Israel knows this (or should) from decades of pointless vicious circle/cycle. There has to be a better way. My gut tells me that much. I wish I had more to suggest, beyond that.

I have no qualms about Israel going after Hezbollah, but am in disagreement with the air war that is causing so much suffering, extended throughout Lebanon. I would have been in favor of a tactical air support of ground operations, what is going on now in the immediate frontier zone, against Hezbollah specifically. Israel does not care how many Lebanese civilians are killed, they become collateral damage. Hezbollah does not care how many Lebanese civilians are killed, they become martyrs, and it is a rabid hate-filled entity with no sane basis for existence. Nor do they care how many Israeli civilians are killed. Unfortunately, the mass air war campaign throughout Lebanon and especially the southern half of the country evokes more rage and resilience, as is seen by the feirceness of the Hezbollah combatants.
Does anybody think that these people will simply give up now and say, "we've had enough?"? So the most Israel can hope for is a reprieve, perhaps. Once they withdraw their troops, the Hezziez will simply dig in again, with ever-improving technologies tuned into guerilla warfare.
While it may seem a contradiction to some, using restraint in the air war and spefically targeting the Hezbollah strongholds would have been a more efective effort. As it is, Israel has asked for assurances that the supply of weapons from the USofA continues as aggressively as needed to help them maintain their high level of militarism.

If anyone has an answer for the madness going on, (Iraq, Lebanon, Israel, Korea... for example), let me know.
It's difficult for me to stand up for any one side amidst all the confusion. My head has been bombed out from all the media exposure, all the different sides speaking out in their own favor, all the lame excuses to kill and destroy.
Hezbollah, (which reminds me of Hitler's SS, with their black outfits and un-human-like marching in strict obedience to... something), claims something akin to defending Arabs and Muslims while in Iraq this same collective Arab-ness is destroying each other with car/human bombs. They're all liars.
The Israeli government retaliates against the 'Hez' for kidnapping 2 soldiers and killing 3 by first dropping leaflets in what is (was?) known as the Hezbollah area of Beirut, as if the only people that would leave would be the non-Hez (why would any Hez-type stay there to be bombed..?). Semi-understandable, but still a bit over the top. But to bomb the airport, bridges and hiways leading out of Lebanon (so everyone has to get stressed out..?), and to ignore the thousands of non-Lebanese who are vacationing there (25.000 U.S., untold numbers of Swedes, Italians, Spanish, Brits, etc... how do they safely evacuate the dangers presented?), and the latest news of the U.S. rushing smart missiles to Israel (to more smartly destroy Beirut... maybe level all of Lebanon..?), to my simple mind, makes little logical sense. As most of us know, this fuels what the Bush Regime loves to call 'terrorism', as if being bombed, maimed and killed, knowing you are totally innocent, is not terror itself.
And this sense of Arab Nationalism is just not evident anywhere in the region, which puts Osama Bin Laden (remember him?) in the ranks of the Clueless Dreamer. If the entire Arab world were truly united for one cause (whose would that be!?!?), then all the countries/emirates would obviously ban together in a collective mass and give the non-Arab world absolute Hell, beginning with destroying every oil well in the entire region. Talk of world-wide havoc... But the Arab world is not quite so united in their agreements (like the divided U.S. politcally..?), as easliy witnessed thru at least the civil war in Iraq against Sunni, Shiites, Kurds and who knows who else.
This idea of unification is nothing more than a bad idea. The current Neo-Con-contolled U.S. Regime feels that their ideology of uniting the world through forced democratic ideals mixed with the U.S. controlling all power worldwide, beginning with the Mid-East (Venezuela: next target), is preposterous. The One World goal of Neo-Cons has to begin with fear tactics which in turn allows them to build a larger and larger military might and along with total control of the power reserves of the world pretty much sows up their agenda... but it must be propagandized over and over to those that (unwillingly) support the effort. There will always be a bad element somewhere on the planet that threatens stability - the Bad Guy has to exist in order to justify the continued escalation of might, which in turn subjugates all within its forceful boundaries. The scenario for this is being played out right now with BushCo and began as an exericise with the (first) Gulf War under Bush I, and along with the continuation of leadership (Cheney, Runsfield, Wolfowitz, etc) is still growing. Bush has beaten Great Britain into submission and is using Blair as a tool. Could the same be said for Israel? The new PM Olmert being assured of beating the 'terrorists' by feeding his military more sophisticate weaponry, thereby leaving Israel more dependent upon the Neo-Con Regime's future is not unbelievable at this point.
The Mid-East has to be the main thrust of any notion of global superiority for any country. The oil is still in abundance which fuels not just the automobile, but virtually anything anymore - electricity, pharmaceutical industries, chemical industries (plastics, agricultural products, for examples). Remember the close alliance Bush 1 had (has?) with Saudi Arabia (where the Bin Laden family hails from... and, btw, the Twin Tower/Pentagon 'kamakazis' were mostly Saudi), whose relations have been extended by Dubya. Saudi Arabia never gets called down for their human rights violations, their non-democratic 'government', and is even a place where some 'evil terrorists' have been sent for interrogation (extreme brutalism, that might make Saddam look ... well, you get the drift).
It seems I'm placing all blame on America here, but let me assure you that America is not directly to blame, but rather the power elite that currently reigns supreme now. It also seems rather crazy to think a man like George W. Bush could have such influence across our lands... but he does. Hurricane Katrina was an eye-opener for the country due to the response of our current adminstration - we know and have heard the many stories, but the way I see it is BushCo would rather spend the government's (our) monies in a continuation of his (their) Iraq policies for one main reason - Iraq has the 2d largest (known) oil reserve, something we should not forget in the turmoil of the situation in the Mid-East.
What I am bringing up here is our world's madness. It's growing exponentially across the earth. Add to all the political concerns we are facing globally, the global warming also brings enormous concerns... and quite possibly even to the Neo-Con agenda, something they never even considered... indeed! would not want to consider (note the several acts of disclosure on the subject thru our current government actions). Could global warming have anything to do with the political situation in the world? Could the world's leaders be somehow mentally affected by the stress this earth is experiencing...? I'll leave that one for others more interested. But one thing I'll stand by - the world leaders are all liars, deceivers and cheats that have their own agendas, most at the mercy of their public and we all have to pay their price one way or another...

it is obviously a charade and a twisting about of events
the Usa supplies Israel with most of its armaments which they use on Lebanon, meanwhile the Usofa says that it will not call for a cease-fire until "conditions are right", but hey, when it's all over, she says relief supplies will be sent. Looks like a charade to me, and to many others elsewhere, I am sure, but hey, the USA media has the storybook version.
