You can be under the influence of alcohol
blow a 1.2
you can be under the influence of dope
they can find cocaine in your shoe
You can be under the influence of religion, technology or science
or iPods and home appliances
or psychology or peer pressure can influence you without measure

or romance can offer you to the winds
what you makes against what you spends
something tells me they never end
The Influences

Influenced by our moods
influenced by the weather
or the turn of a leaf
or the draft of a feather

I've been under the influence of the influential.
I've been under the influence of the moon.
I've been under the influence of threats and promises,
Neither of which happened too soon.

I've been under the influence of confusion.
I've been under the influence of home brew.
But none of these situations effected me as much
As being under the influence of you!

You've tried to convince me to learn some theory.
You've told me rhyming isn't cool.
You've made me believe I was wrong when I wasn't
And told me I was sometimes a fool.

At the same time, you said you loved me,
Gave me a crown, a rose, a throne,
Said you never could live without me,
Then left me all alone.

I've been under the influence of verity.
I've been under the influence of much that's untrue.
But nothing's been as easy or difficult
As being under the influence of you!

I've been in heavy editing mode
(I know, it's not as exciting as heavy petting)
in the process, I ran across this little piece
it's an OK poem
