the airport much like the idea of travel
the leaving and the departed emotional
purveyance of pedestrian amblings

such as picnics at the municipal building
to smoke a joint during lunch
before returning to the hospital
to mop the floors

not that this seemed likely in the context
of planes and security guards who stared
suspiciously at the carts of luggage

everyone is guilty until proven otherwise
or the potential of things

tends to create the aura of disbelief
in everything and everyone

the six o'clock news becomes the mantra
of a paranoid city

and that could happen to anyone and therefore
we have locks for our locks
and cameras for personal security

to protect us from the scrutiny and the misuse
and abuses of a neighbourhood reduced to the mentality
of a community raised as political prisoners

the airport was a philosophical removal
from that which abbreviated what was considered
to be free and democratic
