the difference is that in Viet Nam there was nothing to win or loose. It was/is a small third world country that had no strategic importance. It was easy to cut and run. My head hurts when I think of the consequences from this war.

except for the Buddhists protesting the Catholic Diems brutal repression their was no Jihad element. it was just an anti communist adventure, not a crusade for chirstian values.

The soviet union had a grip on its nuclear weapons. Pakistan and Kahn were not up to speed yet.

The military industrial complex maybe the only constant. And of course we had a president from Texas There were only 16,000 troops in VIet Nam. when kenndedy died. We followed the french let them suck us into that war in the fifties. Iraq we have done on our own. I have heard conspiracy theories that JFK was murdered because he was getting ready to pull out of Viet Nam. I have not seen JFK the movie. Maybe that is the source for that theory?
