Thanks for the obit, Bob: Susan Sontag was one of America's finest critics. Her early appraisals of Antonin Artaud, W. G. Sebald, and others, not to mention "On Photography" and "Against Interpretation" were outstanding works. She was much despised by "America First" writers who derided her for the ...

SB: Even though the door's opening, not closing, that "it" in your first line is all important. Leaving it all behind can mean, as Dylan says, "Bringing It All Back Home." A fine poem, a fine shout, a great hum, at the level of nothing becoming everything. (If that doesn't sound too much like Dr. Wa...

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to LR and Doreen.

May this coming year see an end to the shameful and wrong Iraq War and US military occupation.

Happy Festival of Lights and a peaceful coming year for all Israelis and Palestinians ( and everyone else) to marvelous Judih.

the tiny painting
just a slip of white
down the black curtain
under the rose and aqua threads
the fold under
a thumb and finger
and overall
the eye pointing
past the flemish fog,
the northern sun
stippling the table of ripe fruit
vermeer pulls his socks on
and stamps down on
the cold, waxed parquet

BP: Yes, Gort is pretty. The first time around, even ; I've been there a bit. Nice near Sligeach, too. Liked Tipperary , or whatever it's going to be called now. Sligeach did have a fine Italian restaurant, and the worst cafe I've ever been to in my life in any country: Carlton's in Sligo. They were ...

This is a delightful thread.

I'll be in Gort ( does that name come from "The Day the Earth Stood Still"?) in July.

I'll need a glossary. That's good. I'll learn something new.

"monotony of the biology" is a nice insight into the hegemony of "bodymind."

Thank you, mtmynd:

I enjoy your metaphysical ruminations.

Living as I do in the Kingdom of Kats, I rely on human generosity such as yours.
