Seems like a lifetime ago. I remember the Twinkie defense and I remember thinking that the gay community had exacted a fine revenge on the killer after he got out of prison. I remember the name of the mayor, Muscone and Diane Feinstein succeeding him as mayor.

The seventies were period of my life haunted by what I call my three scarlet letters, acid, abortion and adultery, a time that I spent mostly on the road wandering.

How could you know about it you were not even born yet?

November 1978... 30 years ago. I'm with truck on this one.. as a matter of fact he knows a wee bit more than I in recollecting. SooZen & I had our second child back then and what I remember would fit in a diaper.. clean of course. Too busy and obsessed to follow much else during that time.

I don't remember it at all but I've recently seen clips from the new movie and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it. I had never heard of him before I heard of the new movie.

Sean Penn is one of the best character actors of our time! I just love him. It looks like he's done a wonderful job with the role!

Yeah i hope it won't be like broke backmountain as far as the interviews go...with brokeback the interviewie would ask what it was like/if it was hard to kiss another man...like it was an alien thing....actaully i've already seen where they've asked the guy who plays Penn's partner what it was like for him kissing sean penn...

i kind of consider it a rather ignorant/stupid bridging on homophobic question, I only wish this time around Penn can come up with some sort or retort that makes people aware of this instead of playing along as heath and Jylennhall did.

my guess is a lot of people didn't hear about it because it probably wans't that heavely reported on at the time which is a shame.

1978 was when i took a month's vacation to a kibbutz in israel and then simply stayed.
no TV, no movies, no info from the western world, so i missed Milk's reign and demise. Only years later did i hear about the circumstances of Feinstein becoming mayor.

Wanna see the film, of course!

Obviously I'm not old enough to have been there to remember him, but I had heard of him before the movie. They did a documentary about him a few years ago that I watched and it got my interested. I was fascinated by the whole story. Apparently my aunt met him personally when she was living in Frisco. She said it was one of the proudest moments of her life. There is also a band named after him: http://www.myspace.com/harveymilk He's a bit of a legend in the GBLT community I hang with ever since my bestie had a screening of the doc at his apartment.
