Accuse The Blues

Post by Lightning Rod »

I'm bluer than a milk of magnesia bottle
bluer than the State of New York
bluer than Picasso on his period
blue as the heart of a flame

but you can't blame the blues
the blues is a verb not a noun
makes you stand up or git down
so, don't accuse the blues

a cobalt criminal with a harp
I play the blues in B sharp
which is a C you see?
Don't blame the blues

Do dat you're bound to lose
when we abuse the blues
we bruise our enthusiasm
put it on cruise, don't fit our shoes

the opportunity blues is something to use
to amuse yourself with a color or shade
but the ruse of the blues is that it's sad
nothing short of booze can make you happier
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

thanks jack, I'll breathe easier now

right doreen, you would never catch me using the word enthuse in a poem.
not as a verb anyway. I used it in it's nominative form--'enthusiasm'
still gets the requisite 'oooo' sound but doesn't sound like a silly teenaged girl's poetry.

Yes, there are words that just shout, "I'm a novice poet who thinks who thinks that words like 'gossamer' and 'evanescent' and 'enthuse' are flowery and make me sound like a poet." But they are just trite.
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

Correct.

I'm enthused about the fact that I'm a much more accomplished poet than that.

Cute poem, btw.

gossamer. damn! i was working on a really gossamer piece that was starkly evanescent that i just knew would enthuse the readers of S8, especially clay. but now, just this one brief moment, it turned like an over-ripe banana into a stinging piece of compost not fit for an serious poet or reader of poetry. thanks for letting me know. i came 'this close' to making an complete ass out of myself.

((whew!))

arcadia, that's me minus thirty years plus warpaint

cec, I'm glad I could give you a heads-up
so you wouldn't commit one of the crimes of poetry
words like toadstools and gila monsters are better poetry words

"Divine instinct, breadth of vision, the law of reason, health,
rudeness of body, withdrawnness,
Gayety, sun-tan, air-sweetness, such are some of the words of poems."

clay - have you given serious thought to assembling The Complete Compendium of Incorrect Words To Use in Poetry Writing? It could be hot.
