Sculptress
Sculptress (for my counselor and mentor)
She sculpts me
With word chisel
Pares away broken pieces
Reforms my cracked emotions
Shapes me into beauty
Bares my original nature
Hidden under layers of pain
Her gentle caring
Often tempered with tough lessons
Whose imprint lies deep within
Where feelings once dormant
Are breathed back into life
By her nurturing exhalations
Which heal the heart hurt
As years softly slide by
Into the abyss of memory
She sculpts me
With word chisel
Pares away broken pieces
Reforms my cracked emotions
Shapes me into beauty
Bares my original nature
Hidden under layers of pain
Her gentle caring
Often tempered with tough lessons
Whose imprint lies deep within
Where feelings once dormant
Are breathed back into life
By her nurturing exhalations
Which heal the heart hurt
As years softly slide by
Into the abyss of memory

Lightning Rod, you can take the credit for the paucity of ing words. I took your advice to heart. Now I avoid ing in both poetry and stories. Thanks dude!
Constantine, I thank you dearly for that comparison. After reading the Nikos Kazantakis(sp?) book about Francis, and seeing"Brother Sun, Sister Moon," I felt like he was a kindred spirit. I am honored to be associated with him.

i read that book by kazantzakis years ago - it's not one of his more famous works, but i found it a joy to read. you might want to see the movie, st. francis, by roberto rossellini (fellini worked on the film as an assistant director). it is beautiful and adapted from franciscan chronicles of his life.

Constantine, I'm most grateful for the film recommendation! I wasn't aware that there were other films about St. Francis. Fellini, of course, was (is?) a genius. I will certainly look for that one.
Arcadia, I have her to thank for my emotional survival. Her kindness and empathy saved me from some very dark times. She stuck with me when I was quite a handful, and I remained that way for years. She never gave up on me. And she sees me basically pro bono. She rebuilt my self esteem and put things in perspective for me showing me the beauty within. She absolved me from my guilt and gave me a new lease on life. She is an angel.

SmileGRL, you are exactly right. I have had a lot of fair weather relationships in my life. However, this woman has put up with me at my worst, when my life was falling apart, and when I was going through traumatic catastrophes. She went the full nine yards or me and then some. I am forever in debt to her. However, she never expects any kind of compensation.
