I feel like I am thirty five thousand years behind my species
atavistic and vestigial
I need a couple of more thousand years to evolve

Wikipedia

Eartha Kitt was born Eartha Mae Keith (January 17, 1927) on a cotton plantation in North, South Carolina, which is a small town in Orangeburg County near Columbia, South Carolina. Her mother was of Cherokee and African-American descent and her father of German and Dutch descent. She claimed she was conceived by rape.
Earlier this year I was fortunate to see a PBS concert of hers, probably in her later years, I'm quite sure. Soo and I were riveted by this concert. Brilliant, original, wonderful, to use but three adjectives among many that could be used for Earth Kitt. I knew of her and her talent for many years but after seeing that concert, I raised my appreciation for this woman considerably.

Thanx for the vid. Nice choice.

Ecclesiastes7: 28 which I am still seeking but have not found. I have found one man among a thousand, but I have not found a woman among all these.
Probably the only book of the bible I have read from begining to end, well Proverbs too. But other than that I have not read much in the bible. I have been thinking aboue that verse for years. Still not sure what it means.

But I think Solomon would have dug Eartha. I honor her memory.
Her career took a different turn after she spoke out against the Vietnam War at a White House luncheon in 1968 in the presence of Lady Bird Johnson. As a result of her outspoken anti-war position, she was blackballed and was unable to find work in the U.S., with the exception of a few talk shows. Contracts were lost or cancelled. The CIA developed a file containing personal and professional information. Eartha moved to Europe, where she lived and worked for the next ten years, struggling financially and ignored by many friends. Kitt has said she would have spoken out even if she had known the consequences.

from your quote -
As a result of her outspoken anti-war position, she was blackballed and was unable to find work in the U.S., with the exception of a few talk shows. Contracts were lost or cancelled. The CIA developed a file containing personal and professional information.
i picked this passage as it immediately reminded me of the on-going discussion by mnaz and speaking out against war.

i hope he sees this quote you found.

i didn't know about Kitt's non-violent stance and her being black-balled. very powerful thing for her to not only speak against but to stand by for so many years.

Cecil
Martin Luther King protested the war in 1968 and he died.
All the thousands of books and movies about JFK's murder
All the conspiracy theories

But it is just a coincidence that Martin Luther King was murdered after he spoke out against the war.

A very strange murder, more loose ends than JFK's... But the average American thinks case closed.
After four weeks of testimony and one hour of deliberation, the jury in the wrongful-death case found that Loyd Jowers as well as ''others, including governmental agencies'' had been part of a conspiracy. The jury awarded the King family the damages they had sought: $100, which the family says it will donate to charity.

The family has long questioned Mr. Ray's conviction and hoped the suit would change the legal and historical record of the assassination.

''This is a vindication for us,'' said Dexter King, the youngest son of Dr. King.

He said he hoped history books would be rewritten to reflect this version of the assassination.
