Oh the times, they change.
Jesus decried the money changers.
Now he strides into war to push their claim,
Kevlar messiah bedecked in high-tech halo,
one eye fixed on a gilded millennium,
the other raining tribulation.

take away jesus and the greed remains
stains of humanity that have left scars
on the history of living a life without endings
the toll mounts and the bodies lay racked
lifeless and frozen into a stillness of disbelief
"it cannot be me!" the declaration adamant
we trickle our words across empty pages
wanting to deliver a message to the future
in hopes that what we've left them dies
before it reaches them and curses their needs
that patriarchal justification for killing worn thin
by the terminally distant sounds that never end
but continue clattering in booms and bangs
dulling the will of those that not only hear but listen
stains of humanity that have left scars
on the history of living a life without endings
the toll mounts and the bodies lay racked
lifeless and frozen into a stillness of disbelief
"it cannot be me!" the declaration adamant
we trickle our words across empty pages

in hopes that what we've left them dies
before it reaches them and curses their needs
that patriarchal justification for killing worn thin
by the terminally distant sounds that never end
but continue clattering in booms and bangs
dulling the will of those that not only hear but listen

Emancipation of no thing.
Paul sought profit by things, to hold onto them,
to persecute in the name of them and the law
until struck by light on a Damascus road
like some odd, simple Jesus light,
'Christlike' as it became known.
A new church pushed up tender green shoots,
though punished at first by dying winter winds.
Paul the persecutor of things was humbled.
The infant church was not yet full of things,
wide eyed, Jesus had echoed its wonder,
a humility long ago forgotten.

upon this rock
cold and lifeless
the church shall
mimmick the stone
all the while
true believers
use every rock
to build barriers
stone upon stone
rock upon rock
until truth itself
becomes buried
cold and lifeless
the church shall
mimmick the stone
all the while
true believers
use every rock
to build barriers
stone upon stone
rock upon rock
until truth itself
becomes buried

true...
Light shall be shuttered by creed.
Spirit shall be bottled at a profit.
Vision shall seek its sacred blind.
Humility shall fade into judgment.
Balance shall underpin its top heavy.
Unity shall be walled in words and brick.
Eternity shall be lost in temporal abstract.
Enlightenment yields the church.
The church will outgrow itself.
