Fractured Infestation

Post by izeveryboyin » January 17th, 2009, 2:07 pm

*This is a collaborative piece I performed and wrote with my best friend Quinn Jiles at an open mic recently. How we wrote it was, we would pen about 3-5 lines, and then cover them up so the other could see only the last line, and we would have to write our stanza from that. See if you can figure out which lines were me! We actually finished it about 30 minutes before we were about to go on so forgive the piece it's flaws and remember that it was intended for a live audience.

I'll start the dillusion from my soul
I speak fusing consciousness with reverb
Reminicent of Alvin Lucier's fixation, stuttering patterns.
Red Light, we're at ease.
Peace be with you, and also with you, my sister, my brother,
my broken hearted lover.
Wake me at dawn and take me at midnight.
Midflight.
I am free
From coitus, bummer.
Fabricating demise
Stimulating my eyes, Mind wanders
How do we separate the Individual from the collective?
I'm protective, yet alternately neglective.
Don't try to convert me
I ain't no sunshine queen!
And I may be getting old now,
Cuz I miss being 17.
I wish I could forget 15,
Rebellious in my teens and picking up the pieces in my twenties,
Together we move to a Revelation.
Revolution.
Don't feed me lines or bullshit
I am too hard-hit by senseless violence.
I wish to be medicated.
Drugs legal illegally prescribed
I'm bored in lithium soaked dreams, why can't I sleep?
Prescribe me some more weed.
I need another dose of you, the most of you is hidden beneath a shadow of a doubt, but this ain't lust.
I know this is love.
Hurt me
We think the same intertwined through art and the pen give me my sin again. Lust, love, I never know the difference.
Between you & I
is purpose.
You see I am destined to be here.
Try to be near me.
I move your chair closer, hesitant to kiss ya, humdrum love bug
I am obsessed with my own appearance.
My jeans are from the clearance section, my smile is fucking false.
I am NOT lost!
But I am confused and fed up with the emptiness of reality TV
Flava flava taste my flava for three months of irreverent brain damage... Milky cream puffs and chocolate hoochies
Is there more to us?!
We have become a generation of nothing and I am dying to be better...
Sometimes my nigger shit gets confused with my artsy shit.
My vagina shit gets confused with my brain shit.
My straight shit gets confused with my gay shit.
But I AM NOT YOUR STEREOTYPE.
I am mine.

That was some collaboration

I tried to pick your lines out but I could not.

Well maybe one or two.

Not sure.

One thing I am sure of

I could use some more collaboration like that.

I hope you and Quinn will do it again.

thanks

We have very similar styles. Great minds think alike, I guess. Which lines did you think were me?

energetic piece izzy

In thinking about Alexander's inaugural poem, it crossed my mind, "this sounds like it was written backstage."

but some amazing things have been written that way
Lincoln wrote the Gettysburg Address on the train going to Gettysburg
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

Thanks, I guess. We weren't trying too hard and I think that made it more fun to do. I think when you are performing at a small open mic venue like that the key is to have fun. And speak loudly. LOL.

I didn't like the inaugural poem. I didn't like her delivery. I was very disappointed in it overall. I had never heard of her before but I sincerely hope that it is in her to do better should there be a next time. That being said she seemed like a sweet women, and I think it's hard to judge the quality of another person's poetry because it's all about opinion and taste. But I like getting bad reviews. It teaches me to remain humble. And to consider the possibility that 5 times out of 10, my poetry probably sucks way more than I think it does.

I feel the same way izzy
nothing is so humbling as reading to bare walls

check the thread out on Culture about the inaugural poem
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

I think Quinn started it

And you finished it.

Between the begining and the end it just flowed so nicely between you.

I will print it out and try be more specific about which lines are yours.

the three to five lines is what makes it tough, I want to try and break it up that way, see which couple of lines seem to fit together and then see what follows.

Well I'll let you do that first and then tell you if you're right. Let's see how well you REALLY know me, ST.
