Eight Day Party

Eight Day Party

The world wasn't created in eight days
it was simpler than that
but god always has a way
of making things look easy.
Six days to create the world
1 day to rest
1 day to party

and the morning and the evening were the first day
the flame is just beginning
to know the wick.
burn like the glimpse of creation

I confess
this is not my first eight day party
I believe in reincarnation
and the morning and the evening were the eighth day

rhythm is the key to survival
you eat, you sleep, you smoke, you fuck

and the party moves from room to room
from bed to bed and you adjust

as long as the booze holds out and the food
and there is not too much vomiting on the floor

we party as long as the candle burns.
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

Creation will create the world,
burn the wick at both ends.
Wick laughs at its flame.

In rhythm, out of rhythm,
in the rhythm of their opposition.
Time signatures can be tricky,
I'm guessing.

My candle burns at both ends, it will not last the night. But ah my foes and oh my friends, it gives a lovely light. (Millay)

Don't treat me that way, baby
I won't play second fiddle
I already got my candle burnin' at both ends
You want me to light it in the middle (Lrod, in his BB King voice)
