we travellers on road

Post by mudshark » February 16th, 2009, 6:55 pm

Vi er alle vandrere i det Ukendte.
De, der rejser ved den Vises side,
beskyttes mod at lide skade

we are all wanderers into the unknown
those travelling shotgun by the wise
is protected against all harm

well, i wouldn't say ALL harm...but yeah, cool poem...and cooler to see the translation. what language is that?

here's my afrikaans translation , for interest sake... (i would love to see it in other languages too)

ons is almal (we are all)
swerwers (wanderers)
na die onbekende (into the unknown)

die wat (those...this is more "those that")
saam met (no translations for riding shotgun, so simply "with")
die wyses (the wise)
reis (travel...a lot like your "rejser")

is beskerm (is protected)
teen alle (against all)
kwaad (harm...we also use the word "skade", but probably not in this sentence because it translates more directly to "damage" & i think harm incorporates more than damage...yes, i'm splitting hairs :P )

anyway... i thought it would be an interesting exercise to see the translations and see how many words we have in comon or close.
