The Rest of the Story

Post by Lightning Rod » March 1st, 2009, 10:18 pm

Paul Harvey died and I'm bereft
when I heard about his death
I was transported to my childhood bedroom
where I had a battery powered transistor radio
and I would listen to Paul Harvey
under the covers at night

That was fifty years ago.

Great writing, good opinions and
terrific delivery
he was my model as a common tater
I'll miss you Paul

makes me sad to think of you listening to paul harvey as a kid.

But I am still sorry that you are bereft

I used to listen to him on the road and I was grateful to have something to listen to.

Paul Harvey had integrity, I admire him for that, as right wing as he was he still came out against the Vietnam War in 1970.

Rest in Peace Mr Harvey,
I hope you were in heaven a half hour before the devil knew you died.

Another show I liked to listen to was the Pacific Garden Mission radio show out of Chicago. Unshacled Every week a show about some miserable sinner who was saved. They were dramatized with different actors playing the roles. I always hoped I would be unshackled too.

Yes, what a voice, what a way with a story.

This is what saddens me of late, all the voices disappearing. The comforting voices throughout my life that I've looked to, that become part of our lives, though distant they enter near and feel familiar and somehow friends. All gone, or close to going... I find myself counting how many are left...how many are left.

Well, we all gotta go, but I'll miss the voices, those familiar voices of life. They say, embrace change, but I sorta kinda think I like the status quo of sameness, there is comfort there.
I used to walk with my head in the clouds but I kept getting struck by lightning!
Now my head twitches and I drool alot. Anonymouse
