Are we like the Book People in Fahrenheit 451?
are we what we read?

I've read perhaps 2000 books in my life
(I count the World Book Encyclopedia as one)
books are different than cable TV

Some books are heavier than lead shot to the belly
some books are entertaining
some books help us understand our world

some books are trivial, take them to the beach
some books are naughty, keep them out of reach

The most amazing book I've ever read was
The Story of Civilization by Will and Ariel Durant
I call it a book, but it's eleven books, 10,000 pages
stands about three feet if you stack it on the floor
took me a year to read it, but I had time on my hands

The man spent his whole life writing it
it took me a year to read it
but it's the greatest story ever told

Other reads have given me thrills and realizations
Catcher in the Rye and Naked Lunch
but The Story of Civilization gave me perspective
if you ever have a year to spare, I recommend it.

What is your most influential book? Which one changed your life?

I don’t know if it had anything to do with me Xpress. I made some inappropriate posts there. I used to think I was god’s gift to women.

Been thinking about another book I read a long time ago. The Decline and fall of The Roman Empire. It took about 1500 years. How long do you give the American Empire?

Interesting how the Empire's fortunes would rise during the reign of a good emperor then decline under he successor then rise again under a good emperor then fall again. But the spiral was always downward.

So we get a competent president then a dunce then a good one. I think we are in pretty good hands right now. Till he next idiot comes along I suppose.

Another book that has stayed with me is Tacitus. So modern his political thought you could read him on the op Ed blog of Politico.

Man the world is going to shit Clay. I used to look at a smiling face of Bush doing the 2000 campaign and think to myself if this guy gets elected we could wake up tomorrow in a pile and smoke and ash. It may be too late for Obama to turn it around.

Another book it did not change my life but it gave me the willies.

I think I finished one book last year. A novel. By a man levi asher says is an over rated writer.

No that is not true, I finished the novel 2007.

Since late last year (when my last computer melted) not on this computer, but they do have a mic next door...

Maybe, when I can find some time, I should record some of my rants and rambles again.

I actually miss it (although I used to do it live on the net, rather than recorded).

I have begun the journey of organizing my books. To give you a clue as to how many books I own at the young age of 23- i'll tell you I have an entire section on Anarchy and I break my feminsit philsosophy based on cultural feminsim, liberal feminism and of course the ever dyke favorite- post-feminism.

then theres of course the geeky collection of books about pop music.

woo i need more shelf space.

I like the geneology of morals as well- i have a small collection of Fred's work.
