The year was 1959
the girl was beautiful
We were in love
this song was
Playing on the AM radio
of a green 1959 Plymouth convertible
Was that as happy as I have ever been in my life?
I think so.

If I could flip it to the other side
1962, or 1963, or 1974, or 1984.
for emotional pain
I don't know yet if I will top those years for pain.
But I do not think
I am almost positive that it will never be better than 1959.
But mostly life is good for me now.
But not exciting enough so I keep smoking.

I used to like that saying about everything happening twice. I thought if was Marx but later I found out it was Hegel who said it.
Trouble with me is I can't tell what is happening to me. Sometimes it is a farce, and sometimes it is a tragedy but it takes me thirty years or more to figure out which it was.
The summer of 1972 on the portico of the Sproul Hall. The anthropolgoy building on he mall of the University Of Maryland in College park.
A sudden storm, we both soaked, our faces wet, I kissed the rain drops on her lips. I think now it started as farce and ended as tragedy. I should have kissed my horse and rode off into the sunset and she should have gone back to her husband.
I want you to wear my orange sweater, the one with the scarlet letter.
thanks for stopping by and reading and making a comment.
Always an honor for me
to hear from you.
