Corinthians, what the heck is going on with the Bible Versions?
Seems kind of bizzare to me compared with the KJV.
I base that opinion soley on chapter 13, the love chapter.

My bible is about 25 years old. Some hard miles on it but the binding is still intact. Cost me about twenty bucks. A lot of money to me, or it was back then. Back then when Annie Oakley was still eating kosher hotdogs.

I bought the New King James Version. As close as I could get to a KJV in large print

No Bible scholar me, thank god. I read the bible like it just came out yesterday. Because it is all new to me.

Maybe the kindest act Crazy Mike ever done me was sparing me a religious education. But then he went and blew it when he indoctrinated me into the Holy Trinity of Freud instead.

So now that the old girl is gone before me

Textus Receptus (Latin: "received text") is the name subsequently given to the succession of printed Greek texts of the New Testament which constituted the translation base for the original German Luther Bible, for the translation of the New Testament into English by William Tyndale, the King James Version, and for most other Reformation-era New Testament translations throughout Western and Central Europe. The series originated with the first printed Greek New Testament to be published; a work undertaken in Basel by the Dutch Catholic scholar and humanist Desiderius Erasmus in 1516, on the basis of some six manuscripts, containing between them not quite the whole of the New Testament. Although based mainly on late manuscripts of the Byzantine text-type, Erasmus's edition differed markedly from the classic form of that text.

I know Cec but what has been happening to Shakespeare's Bible? all these new bible versions the past forty years or so.

I got interested in this because of m's poem THe Body Is A Temple. Seems like the NIV is too literal. Ha, look who is talking about being too literal.

Tyndale, he was the guy who was boiled in oil because he translated the Bible into English? Hersey is not for the sissies.

A lot of money back then. But it has a nice leather binding that has held together even after me schlepping it around over the road for about eight hundred thousand miles.

What was trying to say is after Wycliffe and Tyndale did their translations the KJ Version of the Bible was it for about four hundred years. At least for the English Speaking world.

Why all the changes the past fifty years or so? Some new work by bible scholars , philologists? Does it have anything to do with the dead sea scrolls?
