goodbye to all that

look forward angel
not back
you are searching for icons
voices from the past
scholarly wisdom
erudition
head in a book
eyes of papyrus
they're dead and gone
they're dead and gone
lost in the blizzard
footprints filling
you can't go home again

Wouldn't it be fair to say that looking back often leads to the path forward?

Looking back won't give you answers but ignoring your back is often a dangerous strategy, no?

Or am I a wrong in seeing a political slant here?

thanks yejun. it would be fair to say that. i hadn't a political context in mind, but that's just me. once you put it out there it's in the reader's court.

In the long run, I think you're right, but I've been reading a lot of Auden recently and his concerns, at least temporarily, have become my own.
