Stupor bowl....stupid bowl.

I have never understood the appeal of these events.
If anything, I find the whole sports arena these days a most amazingly boring and blatent waste of money that could be well spent in other ways.
These events are not "healthy competitive events" they are moronic, idiotic, wasteful, violent events. Rah Rah Rah! Win Win Win! Egos on the line here!
Heh.
Sigh.
But hey, alot of people like them (or pretend they do) and i'm outnumbered so who am I to squawk.
(Besides, I've more pressing things to do, like look for more work, figure out my food budget for the week, talk folks out of turning off the heat and lights for another few days.......you know, down to earth stuff like that.......)

i appreciate sports for the talent and beauty of the games...both as a spectator and as a player

i'm not much for the hype and the politics of it...i watch it in spite of that

Pro sports and entertainment are the current opiates of the masses. And quite close to organized crime. The average athlete has the intelligence of about a 16 yr old gangsta, if that. And the college athletes are allowed to do pretty much whatever they want to. Math? Writing? Foreign Language? No need for that bitch-ass stuff if yr on an athletic scholarship. Ya got the team, beer, and screwin' hos.

i agree with zozo. although in a general sort of way

i have numerous family and friends playing pro hockey, and have coached it to a level enough to know quite a few pro players, and can attest to the fact that they're not the most educated bunch around

although i wonder who is amongst the most educated bunch around....if we ostracize pro athletes for low education...well, you can connect the dots...and pretty soon you're into an elitist society, or culture

so it always comes back to judging folks for who they are, as opposed to what group they belong to...

They should not just be ostracized for lack of education, but for being multi-millionaires despite being morons. Yes, pro sports is part of the market economy--a very big part--but that shows the absurdity of our market economy and the general low-level mindset of consumers. Salary caps--say about 50 grand a year-- are a great idea.

It's amazing they're managed to turn the super bowl into a national holiday, and that the commercials are considered to be a major and highly anticipated part of the spectacle.

But you know, sports are good because they build character, that's why you never see sports people getting in trouble.

in any event, regardless of the system, i love sports for its beauty, arts for its beauty, people for their beauty, nature for its beauty

i'm sounding downright beautiful here

the argument is against the mass production of entertainment, and i agree with that....those with the power to do so (govt) should be promoting arts other than britney, the patriots, yankees, and lakers, brad pitt, and others

but that requires something bigger than a 'super bowl is stupid' attitude

pretty soon we would be without everything

whole are very basic and primal, and that
appeals to alot of people. Spectators as
well. The quarterback says to his team as he's
crouching in the huddle .. "We've got ninety
god damn yards to go, and we will not be deined.
We're marching up that field, and we're going to
win this game, GOT IT?" The men in the huddle
chant through gritted teeth."Ya Ya." The ultimate
male bonding. Gotta love it. Well, I do.

guess what, it's a great sport. yeah, the super bowl is overhyped and usually isn't that close, but it's the culmination of many months of hard work. if you've never played (north american) football, it ain't easy. after sixteen weeks, your body gets the shit kicked out of it.

i never understood why people have a problem with athletes earning as much as some idiot will pay them. what's wrong with a guy earning all that he can from an owner who can buy and sell a small country?

organized sports, including football, are important on many levels. if you don't want to watch the super bowl, i'm sure there's a rerun of designing women you can catch.

Football is not a great sport. It's simple, and lacks the strategy and finesse even of baseball. It's a type of craze among peasants.

zozo, how can you suggest that baseball has more strategy involved than football? That's nonsense.

I'm no fan of either but football is far more exciting. Watching a baseball game is like watching paint dry.

But what do I know? I get a thrill watching Tiger Woods hit a three iron within three feet of the cup.

my uncle was a professional athlete. He made an amazing amount of money, not only in prize money (he was a golfer) but also in endorsements and exhibitions, etc.

I was glad to see him do well because he was my uncle, but I always thought it vulgar that an athlete was paid a couple of million a year while a schoolteacher got 24,000.

Football, and particularly the Super Bowl is a national ritual. Jerry Falwell wishes he could get the kind of devotion for christallmighty that the Super Bowl gets.

Golf , though it requires some weird skills, is perhaps the most absurd and, yes, corrupt little pastime known to bidnessmen. In vegas, palm springs, arizona, the fuckers set up these massive courses in the middle of desert and suck up all the water. It's a great game if yr in the mafia.....
