acid litmus

Post by saw » July 4th, 2009, 11:40 am

he was the thoreau
of my neighborhood
sometimes ornery
sometimes subversive
liked to pack his knapsack
before the first hint of light
head off to the calm
woods therapy, the solitude
of a known path, the
adventure of forging a new one,
trek for the whole day
in the sanitary sewer network
those concrete tunnels that lead
to the chesapeake bay,
you might actually make it
in your mind if you packed
enough lunch and it didn't rain
too hard, in a kid's heart, dreams
so easily washed away like used
motor oil and pesticides,
this boy could think in the confines
of a conduit, he was by some accounts
the first psychedelic spelunker,
perhaps the only one of his kind
I knew this boy quite well, before he, knew me.
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading

I knew this boy quite well, before he, knew me.
Interesting.

I forgot about what the boy knew. However I have begun to remember him and what he knew and I forgot.

please pardon the ramble

thanks for the poem

Hard to pick out one bit from a poem and say I liked that the best
but that line got me to remembering
"Natural selection, as it has operated in human history, favors not only the clever but the murderous." Barbara Ehrenreich
