oh them nashville cats
picking and grinning

Trying to make to nashville
in my dreams
I hardly ever hear any music in my dreams
I can only remember one dream in the past sixty eight years
that had music playing in it.

first thoughts wired one
flowing with coffee and cigarette
morning news playing in the background
turning into a drone
going to get up and turn it off
find some morning maniac music
Spongled again maybe
but I can't deal with the lyrics
go to be instrumental
I need a saxophone that sounds like that train horn I heard last week.
sometimes the trains come high balling by my shack every half hour
most sound the same
blast that horn like choking a chicken
but one last week I heard
I swear I ain't lying mark
he made that horn moan
he played it so sweet
lonesome and travelling
took my blues a little further down the track
that dam radio still on
I got find some music
be back
I was worried about the avatar
it helps me keep her in my thoughts

my numbers are grim
I got the statistical blues
I don't want to mourn for myself no more

One of these days I am going to hear the music just like a radio in my head

you know if there is a rock and roll heaven they must have a hell of a band.

Dam that radio is still on the news.
I would play some Waren Zevon but I can't take the lyrics
All I need is a sax.

He it comes I will be dipped
another train horn just like a temple bell
Hell of a doppler effect
must have been fast one
Came and went in a flash of music

Fredrock
it is the promised land
never forget how much the world can change in thirty five miles.
Maryland my Maryland
you are so beautiful
you got it all
Must be like a Zionist feels about Palestine.

easy for me to get lost in the words
I am a word freak

aching in my body
peace in my heart
"cut me loose let me fly
after all these years I am still alive"

I am scared.
Almost taste the fear
or maybe it is the Darvon

Strange thoughts
even for me
march to a pharmaceutical beat
I am down

Your walls cheered me up

oh lordy I almost used an emoticon
Don't want to go there

thank you for the art.

doing by not doing
no trains tonight
just more news on the radio

surfing around for a sound I found Tony c scott clarinet I think he might be the engineer on that melodious freight

searching for a beat
something we can dance too

being jam in 1950 trying to lower my squeaky little kids voice to sound like Vaughn Monroe as I sing Ghost Riders in the Sky to my mother....

she always so easy in my dreams

I am having a dance emergency here
I got to call EMS
emergency medical services
that is

got to dance
might be my last chance
on this go round
if souls are reborn

THe fear is not helping me
no one to fear but myself
I am a lazy student of the hermit
I am just a flatlander

I got GO now
and practice
not doing
be back when I am done
not doing.

the heart
the soul -
products of the lingo
children of the sound
look around
everybody's doin'
everybody's movin'
everybody's glued to the rhythm
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

I'm gone down by the riverside
not gone to study war no more
happiness is a warm gun

SOmething about the life takers
the ones I trucked with
such gentle men to be around
salt of the earth
valuable men
who never got rattled
by the day to day
snafu of the trucking business
always cheerful
the more that went wrong,
flat tires, breakdowns, screwed up paper work

the more they saw the humor in our mundane
chicken shit civilian world

one partner of mine
I don't know what he saw in me
this four f hippie conscientious certified objector nut jub
Maybe I could have been a combat chaplain
Father confessor

I found it remarkable
how nonchalantly my partner in crime
could shoot a man, just a reflex maybe
and the big mean drunk was dead in the alley behind the bar

is there any river here
not even sure I can spell rhythm
that old man ribba
that lucky old sun

I am looking for a beat
here
I was talking about this big bear of a man who could not watch slasher movies, he had seen enough
in Vietnam
came home and became a long haul trucker
not sure what it is about the life over the road that attracts that breed

Hanshan-in on the mountain
July in south Texas
I am cold
in my hermit hut
no rosy cheeked demons or starry eyed maidens
to bring me pain

I got a house in Baltimore
street cars running by my door
gimme a beat boys
let him roll

You find a flower half-buried in leaves,
And in your eye its very fate resides.
Loving beauty, you caress the bloom;
Soon enough, you'll sweep petals from the floor.

Terrible to love the lovely so,
To count your own years, to say "I'm old,"
To see a flower half-buried in leaves
And come face to face with what you are.

- Han Shan, 750 Translated by Peter Stambler
