like the hummingbird

Post by keithalanhamilton » August 1st, 2009, 5:51 pm

outside the front door of the little cape cod style home
on a bracket, we hung that splendid fuchsia plant, why
well, one morning when pulling back the front door curtain
lo and behold, right out the window was the reason, yep
staring back with alert eyes, the ruby-throated hummingbird
teensy weensy in stature and seemingly not designed to fly
darted off it did as if to defy all odds flapping wings rapidly
backwards, frontwards, sideways and then suddenly stop
sucking the sweet nectar of the fuchsia before moving on
what an example this little bird gives to those living a life
yes for all despite the cards dealt us to make the best of it
we’ll in time overcome and in so doing through tireless effort
like the hummingbird, we’ll joyfully accomplish the impossible
