Bully for Ted!

Post by hester_prynne » January 27th, 2005, 9:40 pm

Finally, someone is speaking out in objection to the current administration.
I know he ain't perfect, but I have to say I am applauding this man today because he's at least speaking more of the mind of the blue half of this country. I see this as very brave, albeit very tardy.
I've written to his office and let them know how much I appreciate his candor and that I am sorely confused as to why more of our representatives are ignoring their constituency's wishes regarding this current administration.
I think positive response to this will assist in keeping the momentum of objection rolling.

Hi Judih, Sorry about that, I'm referring to Senator Ted Kennedy who's been very outspoken this week about the failures of the current administration, pointing out that Americans were mislead into this Iraqi war, right on the senate floor and in front of the tv cameras.

Finally! The stupor is wearing off or something.
Then of course too, I can be ridiculously optimistic at times.

Actually, Kennedy has been outspoken all along

Hey ST, would you elaborate on this, please? What exactly do you mean? "Credibility" with who? The "liberal media"? The neo-cons? Yourself?

Hester - actually, Kennedy has been fairly outspoken in his opposition to the war for quite some time. He's given several major speeches, beginning with the lead up to the war and continuing until the present, in which he's strongly opposed the war, called Bush to task for his folly, and insisted that the country abandon its current indefensible foreign policy.

10/16/03
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/washi ... _iraq_war/

"Ratcheting up his criticism of the war in Iraq, Senator Edward M. Kennedy accuses the Bush administration of telling "lie after lie after lie" to defend its policy in a fiery speech prepared for delivery today on the Senate floor."

1.14.04
http://www.salon.com/opinion/feature/20 ... print.html

"No president of the United States should employ misguided ideology and distortion of the truth to take the nation to war. In doing so, the president broke the basic bond of trust between government and the people. If Congress and the American people had known the whole truth, America would never have gone to war. "

3/6/04
http://www.occupationwatch.org/article.php?id=3453

"'Tragically, in making the decision to go to war in Iraq, the Bush administration allowed its wishes, its inclinations and its passion to alter the state of facts and the evidence of the threat we faced from Iraq,' Kennedy said in a speech to the Council on Foreign Relations. "

And so on.

The problem, perhaps, is that too many people (such as Stilltrucking, I suppose) cotton to the endless Republican rhetorical sneering about "the liberal Senator from Massachusetts" (and worse). Or maybe it has to do with the "liberal media" not paying enough attention to anti-war sentiments.

I will agree that Senator Kennedy's eloquent denunciations of Bush and the republican cowboys are needed and to the point. THe democrats could use more articulate, rational, and courageous figures such as Ted Kennedy. And it's amusing to hear the hysterical reaction of conservative okies when you tell them that you admire Ted Kennedy. Nonetheless, it's a shame that the democrats have to rely on a few wealthy, privileged Boston irishmen to make any decent points. Where are the Kennedys from California? From the mountain states? From Dixie?

Yes, where are they?

Perhaps they are afraid to speak out?

I think the main thing is that Ted was on CNN which is viewed by many many people.
The media has seemed very hestitate to put anything that isn't pro bush and war in front of us, so it was good to see Ted Kennedy on there for a change, telling it like it is.
The news media should be ashamed. What a bunch of gutless sissies. Traitors actually. They make me sick....sellin out like they have. Ugh.
Should be an interesting weekend. Watch yere backs!

The cops around the valley and eastside are riding'. Never seen so many pigs--everywhere. Sweeps, drug busts, shakedowns-- the LAPD and Sheriffs are stormtroopin'. Osiris help ya if yr on probation ( I'm not), parole, or smoke pot, or po'. It's difficult to think of any politics beyond the local or state level when the Cali nazi party is rising.

The gangstas are rumblin' too, as per usual--a former student of mine who just moved to vegas was stabbed and killed a few days ago. Insane suicidal dudes leave their SUVS on the metrolink tracks....

My own view is that when right wingers such as Bush and King Ahhnuld are in office the macho gangstas ramp up, but the pigs do pretty much what they want with no fear from Feds or grand juries or attorneys--who gives a shit about Due Process or rights when yr in control and no one can stop you? Cops and robbers, 24/7. Odelay.

There's a voting booth in LA right?

For the past couple days here there've been alot of helicopters swooping around and military planes buzzing by, preparing to be on alert I suppose even here, in Podunk. I been laying low that's for sure.....smoke my reefer in the closet if I had any.....(wink wink)

Couple of the elders that I work for are very concerned we're headed back to the "dirty thirties" as they call it. Whatever that means?

It's a shame they have to shut the whole country down in Iraq in order to have this vote. I mean, a vote for "liberty", in lockdown, with curfews and all. And Bush and his cronies running the show. I mean, heck, we KNOW how they are when it comes to elections....
Arrrrrrrgh!
I'm really frustrated. I'm angry and impatient all the time anymore with most people, including myself.
I feel like we are all a bunch of stupids being led willingly by a fucking moron.
It's disgusting.
I mean George thinks he's god! He practically says so! He thinks he can do no wrong and is puzzled why anyone would question him! Holy Crap!
I just want to make it all go away....god dammit.
Fuck shit piss.
I HATE THIS WAR! I LOATHE GEORGE BUSH.
AND IF YOU VOTED FOR GEORGE BUSH THEN
FUCK THE HELL OFF!

I just had to get that out.

I'm so mad anymore.
I need to start a rage blog or something. A place to rage in. I'm sure there are others who have anger and or rage about this predicament.

Of course perezee, you understand...right?
How does one remain unaffected?

I am beyond the Bush is Satan thing. Of course I voted Kerry--especially after watching Kerry trounce that unstable okie chimp in the debates. But now I think the dems would have been better off with Dean. Kerry was the pragmatist and compromiser and waffler and he lost. Dean was the real reform and anti-war candidate ( as was Kucinich, who I initially supported).

Bush and his daddy Cheney are simply the frat boy representatives for the corporations, the military, the vets, the small town Walmart hicks, and all the flag-waving, upstanding members of the US communi-tays who would be happy to see the US march from Baghdad to Bejing. And as the conservatives and militarists flourish the individual's rights --especially of dissenters and freaks--are in more danger. I wager that when wars are going down, there are more busts, more fucked -up cases, more innocent people in jail.

I have to agree.....power and control running rampant....a logical chain of events. (Plato would be proud eh?)

I wanted Kucinich too....but he was too good, didn't interest anyone "outside of a small circle of friends" to quote an old song that's been running through my brain.

I went wild at the video store and rented 7 movies to watch this weekend to keep myself from getting sucked up in the big election that will be tyrannizing all of our senses.

1 Pocketfull of Miracles
2 All or Nothing
3 The Man with the Golden Arm
4 Things you can tell by just looking at her
5 The Human Stain
6 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
and to entertain my more twisted interests....
(7- Nocturnal habits of midgets, xxx heh, shhhhh!)

Seen any of these?
Sigh
I'm resorting to cheap distractions.
I guess I am an American.
Heh.
