RE: President Obama's "back to school speech"

Upset that their school district didn't televise President Barack Obama's back-to-school speech Tuesday, a group of 40 parents and students organized a private showing of the broadcast at a golf course clubhouse in Wheaton.

Controversy over the plan to address children in kindergarten through 12th grade erupted last week after conservative commentators and some parents questioned whether Obama planned to "indoctrinate" the children with his political beliefs.

Conservative activists blasted it as socialist. Worried parents called for boycotts. School adminstrators sturggled over whether to let students hear it.

Jim Greer, chairman of the Florida Republican Party said in a statement that he was "absolutely appalled that taxpayer dollars are being used to spread President Obama's soicalist ideology.

So Obama gave his "back to school" speech. Every thing is cool. Except that it strikes me as sad that parents are telling their children that they should not hear what the president of the United States has to say. As if the president is evil.

So don't grow up to be president of the "united snakes"

Actually that might be a good idea.

Reading this post of yours, truck, I notice it's dated 9/11... 8 years after the the terrorist attack and here we are with a group of people who don't want their children to hear the President of the United States give their children words of encouragement for their futures. Something is so wrong with that scenario that it baffles me. "Can things get worse?" I ask myself, nodding 'Yes, of course..' and it's an uncomfortable feeling.

Two letters from todays San Antonio Express News

Education not needed.

I don’t think we should let our youth hear anything about getting an education.

We have one of the highest teenage pregnancy rates and one of the highest school dropout rates in the country, and I wouldn’t want anyone messing with our record. The girls don’t need an education. They can get pregnant and drop out and have five or six kids by the time they are in their early 20’s,

Boys don’t need an education either. Who would keep the police busy, make the drug lords richer, fill the prisons and do all the minimum-wage jobs?

So, you parents, just be careful who you let youth listen to they may mess up their chance to be a burden on society for life.

It is obvious that the letter writer above is being duped, he should be watching Fox News like the writer of this letter.

Hidden messages

It has become apparent that President Obama has an agenda in mind by presenting a message to schoolchildren.

The message in itself will be harmless- stay in school, work hard, etc.-the same thing parents tell their children, I see little value in interrupting children’s school day with this message. If the parents aren’t supporting this, it won’t matter what Obama says.

However, I was watching Fox News early Tuesday and noticed Obama came out with two positive messages, one of which was about being a good dad.

These are great messages, but his real motive is to attempt to convince people that his standing up for all good moral values in this way, he will attempt to establish the mind set: “See what a good guy I am. Since I’m doing this, it means I’m also supporting a good health policy.”

I urge parents not to be fooled nor let their children be fooled. His health policy is in no way consistent with the other messages he’s presenting
