i was born on 9/11, i was born on
born on 9/11 sitting in front of 7/11
born on a corner spitting dimes at the moon
born too late, born too soon
i wasn't born with a silver spoon
i was born with Howl in my eyes
born with a DNA that wants to find its spiral
how did we fall so low
how did we make it out of Atlantis
when i was born the world had just been torn
in two
whats a nine nine nine, eleven eleven kid to do
i was born with one shoe, and a pocket full of
my marbles
i was born on a whim and a whimper
born in some northern town, called Westbend
and my already "go west young man" life was
around the bend ever since
i was maybe not born to bend spoons
but i was born with those spoon bending eyes
the eyes of a damned poet
that sees through the history we been fed on that
fake fork
oh i wasn't dropped by no stork
wasn't born under no lettuce leaf
born between one war and another
i was born on a highway comin through Needles
my first memory had arrived in the middle of
the Mohave desert
i was born to a dad that came to California
to get a job in an aircraft factory
i was born and lived in a little tract home
and Disneyland was born on my 5th birthday
i never had no birthday parties, dad a work-
a holic, mom a slow child that had one
i was born in some kind of Bukowski world
a radical & a revolutionary, in the first grade
born when America was becoming more plastic made
the Military Industrial Complex that Ike warned us of
i wasn't born out of love, or lust exactly, more like
a biological tick between a tock
a crock and a mock, a shock, and guffaw
oh lord you don't know the things i saw
i was born in them times a changing
when Steve Allen said "Shmock, Shmock, Shmock"
and Lenny Bruce said "Fuck, Fuck, Fuck"
and Tim Leary said: "tune in, turn on, drop out
of the hole they made with that black hole machine
born when UFO's were flyin out of Mount Shasta
when my grand parents came from Wisconsin
to not play Canasta, they played Liverpool Rummy
i was born when Kennedy was gunned down in Dallas
the day my childhood died, i was stunned, never cried
i was born when i saw Beatniks in a movie one Saturday
afternoon
Born with bongos in my hands, had given up those
Iwo Jima John Wayne Nevada sands
i was born in this lands, your lands , my lands
born with Dylan singin "everybody must get stoned"
born when Beatles played i wanna hold your hand
on the Ed Sullivan show
i was born when surf was up
and Kerouac was still on the road
i was reborn one day in 67 when i took my first LSD trip
wasn't born on the 4th of July
and i'll tell you why
i had those X-ray eyes , saw things in multi-dimensional skies
i saw through all them programed one-dimensional man minds
i was a truth-seeker on the day i was born, and that ain't no
corn-pone
its a born on 9/11 pome, goin home, home home, makes me
feel like i never been born, singin them born on 9/11 blues
i was born payin them Union dues, born to bee free
to be freaky and play hide and seeky with helter skelter
yes i was born to the song of the House of the Rising sun
born to see as far as i can see, i was even born
in Jim, and Jimi's eyes, those wild child savior of the human highs
in a Sol ritual, in the Rites of Eleusis i was born true
i played the god that had been played since gods played
in the strawberry fields forever,
born to kiss the sky, and stand in the ancient tyger-gyre window
and feel the wild white light shine through my logos- body of light
was born out of sight and out of mind
when the blasted towers mocked the heavens, and a hard rain fell
and instant replay is stuck on them blow em up, blow em down
no i wasn't born with no crown, i was only born to be a wise clown
to see them buildings in New York implode again and again
and sing with Whitman, but comment with Mark, lies lie and more
dammed lies, the Twain shall meet, the east and west comes around
i was born with that crazy whip-crackin ride ride that lightning sound
born on a corner spitting dimes at the moon
born too late, born too soon

Hobbits sounds good to my long poet rabbit ears.
but serious, i have a poet jones, like Judih say.
but poetry is a gift from some middle earth.
when i was just a teenager lad, before i began writing
i read the Hobbit.I was told about the Lord of the Rings
books, by the first woman i knew that took LSD.
my novel tells about my teenage adventures.
i was going to write a book about how i became a poet,
and what it was like, in the beginning. So i then just wrote
about my late 60's days.Another book would carry on from
that, and pick up the thread, when i actually began writing.
