"We the People" (Annual poem)

Post by Nazz » July 6th, 2009, 8:21 pm

Another Fourth, another poem.
New tradition; where do we stand?

Land of plenty, no sin in making billions.
Did you notice the corporate behemoth?
We holed up in caves with joystick and fridge,
blew up bin Laden in a basement for years.

Where do we stand?
Pick any motif, like B-movie aliens.
“How do we know he’s not one of them?”
No, he’s one of us! Hope! Change!
‘Tho his language is oddly familiar.
“They wish to do us harm.”

They? Us? Who?
Where do we stand, Mr. O?
Threatened without, or from within?
The lobbies are still stinking of gin.

But he overcame so much!
Incomprehensible struggle and rise,
against all odds, against oppression.
Embrace our land of opportunity.
Cherish the idea, respect the man.
Barack O, where do we stand?

Hope! Or longsuffering.
Change! If it fits interests.
Sea change. See change run.
Health care massacre on the hill.
Puppet regimes and oil wars.
He’s only one man.

Where do we stand?
Punch drunk with liberty.
Another Fourth, another verse,
bought, sold, deeper in debt.

I went looking for posts to creative with zero replies per Doreen's request.

Found this one

Nothing much to say about it except I think it is very solid work

You covered my concerns in a nutshell.

thanks Nazz

How did I know? Health care massacre in progress on the hill. Soldiers being sacrificed to roadside IED's in Afghanistan. Coming to pass. More of the same.
