"human resource exploitation"

Post by stilltrucking » August 25th, 2009, 9:16 am

Following the Torture Trail
As another report details abusive interrogations, the government faces tough choices on possible prosecutions.

"AN OLD STORY," CIA Director Leon Panetta said yesterday upon the release of a report by the agency's inspector general on the interrogation of terrorist suspects. Old, perhaps -- the report was completed in 2004 -- but nonetheless revolting.

Most tellingly, the report shows how clearly those involved in the interrogations foresaw the moment when, having been pressured by higher-ups to elicit information that high-value detainees were thought to be withholding, they would find themselves called to account for their actions.

The real culprits in this sordid story are those higher-ups, starting with former president George W. Bush and former vice president Richard B. Cheney, who led America down the degrading path of state-sanctioned torture and left the next administration to cope with the fallout.

The CIA in Latin America
By Tom Blanton
Posted March 14, 2000

Today’s Washington Post features an op-ed on page A17 titled “Hardly a Distinguished Career,” written by National Security Archive director Tom Blanton and commenting on the CIA’s decision to award the Distinguished Career Intelligence Medal to the highest-ranking CIA official fired in a 1995 scandal for failing to inform Congress about the CIA’s ties to human rights abuses in Guatemala.

.

I hope it is not the last thing you do, but meanwhile do it for the fat lady. Do what you can for them.

I love this bit
Seymour'd told me to shine my shoes just as I was going out the door with Waker. I was furious. The studio audience were all morons, the announcer was a moron, the sponsors were morons, and I just damn well wasn't going to shine my shoes for them, I told Seymour. I said they couldn't see them anyway, where we sat. He said to shine them anyway. He said to shine them for the Fat Lady. I didn't know what the hell he was talking about, but he had a very Seymour look on his face, and so I did it. He never did tell me who the Fat Lady was, but I shined my shoes for the Fat Lady every time I ever went on the air again — all the years you and I were on the program together, if you remember. I don't think I missed more than just a couple of times. This terribly clear, clear picture of the Fat Lady formed in my mind. I had her sitting on this porch all day, swatting flies, with her radio going full-blast from morning till night. I figured the heat was terrible, and she probably had cancer, and — I don't know. Anyway, it seemed goddam clear why Seymour wanted me to shine my shoes when I went on the air. It made sense.

I don't care where an actor acts. It can be in summer stock, it can be over a radio, it can be over television, it can be in a goddam Broadway theatre, complete with the most fashionable, most well-fed, most sunburned-looking audience you can imagine. But I'll tell you a terrible secret — Are you listening to me? There isn't anyone out there who isn't Seymour's Fat Lady. That includes your Professor Tupper, buddy. And all his goddam cousins by the dozens. There isn't anyone anywhere that isn't Seymour's Fat Lady. Don't you know that? Don't you know that goddam secret yet? And don't you know — listen to me, now — don't you know who that Fat Lady really is? . . . Ah, buddy. Ah, buddy. It's Christ Himself. Christ Himself, buddy.

Let me tell you how it is boudreaux
You don't want to talk to me about this
I don't want to talk to you about anything else

I understand a few things about myself
I see a combination of cowardice and violence

A fellow can get hurt in a fair fight
I always thought about getting the upper hand
to strike back with out getting hurt

You are a nice guy I am not.
So I have reaped the whirlwind
There it is.

Murderous unbridled rage.
You think your unique experience is without parallel, Jack?
It is not.
You are not alone in this.
You think getting the upper hand means you don't get hurt.
How does your hand feel after you sucker punch a guy?
No, I never tried to kill my mother.
No, I never wanted to kill a coworker because he got on my nerves.
You think I never wanted to kill anyone?
Think again, Jack.
Nobody stopped me.
God didn't stop me.
Goddess didn't stop me.
Jesus didn't stop me.
Society didn't stop me.
My family didn't stop me.
The only reason that effing bitch in Camas, Washington is still alive today is because I stopped me from killing her.

You ain't the only one, Jack.
So get over yourself and stop reaping the whirlwind.

Peace,
Barry

What does the book of Deuteronomy have to do with all this?

That vengeance does as much if not more (lasting) harm to the avenger than to the avengee because whatever goes around comes around.

oh
ok
thank you for explaing it.
I appreciate the comeback
sincerely
Still not sure what it has to do with this.
I just like euphenisms.
That is why I posted the article in the first place.
Revenge was the last thing on my mind

Remember the Maine
Remember The Alamo
Remember the USS Liberty

The Navajo are a civilized people and have no concept for revenge.
Same with the Tibetans I have read.

They say even dogs and monkeys have a concept of fairness.
I need to google justice and see what the definition is. Something to do with fairness. My uncle a lawyer used to tell me right and wrong have nothing to do with the law.

How many n*zi war criminals have died peacefully in their sleep
Idi Amin lives the good life in Saudi Arabia
And in Texas an innocent man was executed by the state. probably one of many.

vengence has always been a visceral thing for me, I always wanted to extract it myself.

But I have mellowed. I have not put a fist through a wall or raised my hand in anger against another human being in a long time. Over twenty years. But I threw my little dog against the wall a few years ago.

Oh lordy
I like Kris Krisstoffersen a lot
"Lord help me Jesus
I know what I am"
I get my theology from trashy country music.

I am as vain as Jack Kerouac but with out his ability

"The only meaning the world has is how it unfolds for me"

Thank god for Nietzsche. He speaks to me like an old testament prophet.
The Geneology of Morals is such an interesting book. Especially if your are tripping your ass off on acid. Watching the words crawl off the page like thick black worms and then up your arms and into your eyes.
And I don't want a moo moo
Just give me a Camus
"What I wish for now is no longer to be happy but only to be aware." Camus
But it is a feedback loop
the more aware I am the happier I become.

Still not sure what it has to do with this.
A lot of people on the Left appear to want some kind of vengeance against Bush/Cheney et al, as opposed to justice. They will get their's. That's why I posted the quote from Deuteronomy.
I need to google justice and see what the definition is. Something to do with fairness.
Justice isn't about vengeance. Justice is about fairness. Fairness to all. Vengeance is only fair to one, or a few at best. The fairest way to justly serve the public good is to rehabilitate offenders rather than punish them.
I get my theology from [popular] music.
Ironically, so do I.

You and me are on the same page, Jack. Even if you don't see that, it's still true.

Peace,
Barry

Well, Jack, that's okay. Because, you see, thinking...and the creative visualization folks will try to tell you different...no matter how hard or how focused, does not change what is.

Nick Andos to Mother Abigail (in a note, because he's deaf): "I don't believe in God."
Mother Abigail: "That's okay, Nick. He believes in you."
from The Stand, by Stephen King.
