I think it is because the meek will inheirit the earth. And when that happens Dick Cheney will need to find a new undisclosed secrete location on the moon. So they need to find out if there will be enough water to flush the commodes.

Sorry

My sick sense of humor.

On the up side I have read that the moon is leaving. About one centimeter a year farther away

But not to worry, because before it can break away entirely the sun will super nova and destroy the earth and the moon.

I think it is a waste too, we will need those bombs for when we start Operation Canadian Freedom.

sorry sorry sorry
What the fuck happened to my sense of outrage
I envy you guys.

Maybe they're not nuts after all... maybe they figure there's no life there now, but they think there may have been life previously on the moon and water is what supports life.

Bombing the surface won't kill anybody since there's no life there.

So, if they discover that there's water underneath the surface of the moon, maybe the idea is that they can figure out how to bring it to the surface or how to access it so that the moon could one day be a habitable place for people....

in the not so distant future after human beings destroy the earth making it inhabitable.

Or maybe I've read too much science fiction. ;)

Yes that is what I was thinking too doreen.

But I was thinking that sarcastically as when man makes the world uninhabitable for people the rich and powerful will have a place to retreat to. That is when the meek will finally inherit the earth.
An existential risk is one where humankind as a whole is imperiled. Existential disasters have major adverse consequences for the course of human civilization for all time to come.

I once saw a comic doing a bit about the "Save the Earth" campaign.
It was hilarious.
His point was, it's probably the greatest human conceit to think we could actually destroy the Earth.
He said we better hope the Earth doesn't go on a "Lose the Humans" campaign.

We all disappear and everything returns to normal in a couple hundred years at most. Everything about our "civilization" requires constant maintenance.
Yeah, let's hope the Earth does not go on that campaign.

Maybe it's already happened?
Global Warming?
Oh, that's right. We caused that.

So we say.

Peace,
Barry

I've already been totally pissed off about all the debris and garbage in orbit, but this feels different. I'm a moon child, it's like I'll be shot on Friday. Sure, I'm gonna survive, but I might hurt.

This is ridiculous, this outrage at the moon being "shot." It's ridiculous, like being outraged at a child being bitten by a mosquito in Panama. Are we all so knee-jerk we just clamor for things to be outraged about?

Who got upset when NASA "shot" that comet for the same reason they are about to "shoot" the moon?

Not one of you. And for good reason.

Peace,
Barry

Yes, for good reason. Cause I DIDN'T flippin knows about it, I s'pose.
Sorry for a second of attitude. And I don't feel good, must be rubbing off on me.

I am just sayin', I don't care if I'm ridiculous. That's all. Carry on.

Barry... when did NASA shoot a comet? What did they shoot a comet with? Did they bomb the comet? What was the same reason? They were looking for water?

I feel like everybody chooses their own issues and if people find this moon bombing to be wrong, well it's good that they speak out about it!

I'd like to think NASA knows what it's doing and that they're doing this for a valid reason, trying to find water for a reason which will help humanity in the long run.

I'm not outraged, myself... but also I'm a moon worshiper... and a moonchild (astrologically)... and feel a huge affinity with the moon. And I hate bombs. So I can understand the reactions questioning why the heck they're doing this.

I think someone quoted the cost. It's very expensive. Our tax dollars. What's the purpose of it? What will they do if they find water?

It's not an issue I intend to get angry about but I think it's fine if other people chose this issue to be angry about. I can understand that reaction.
