Moon Shines

Post by sooZen » October 9th, 2009, 9:31 am

Okey dokie, seems that the scientific experiment directed at the moon has engendered all kinds of emotional reactions.

And why shouldn't it? For after all, in astrological terms, the moon represents our emotional selves, the feminine sides of ourselves, our subconscious selves...

I have stated before that most peeps that don't 'believe' in astrology know absolutely zero about the so called pseudo-science. That is a fact, if nothing else. But I am not here to defend astrology although I plant my crops by it, plan around the moon's phases and treated my son's disease by such, etc... That is just because I could 'see' it work and have studied it for more years than I care to count. But that is neither here nor there and a discussion for another space and time.

Now as to the "bombing" of the moon. A very unfortunate use of words for the event that is taking place. Bombing implies all kinds of negative images in human history and that is not exactly what is taking place.

I am all for space exploration and possibly see it as the only salvation for a species (us) and those unfortunate enough (all the other living forms of life) to experience our lack of foresight and immature attitudes about this fragile blue orb that is our spaceship.

If we don't seek out the basic necessities for our survival long term, we are signing our death warrant. Finding water is one of those necessities. We, as a species with the abilities to look, must look. Dontcha think?

This experiment is a good investment in our future, IMHO. Cheap, actually considering the consequences. I am trying to think about this unclouded by the moon's emotional influences. It is more like a flu shot than a "bombing."

Man (using the term universally altho, it excludes WoMan but that is another subject entirely too) needs to explore...as a creature who always is questioning, searching, wondering...Man must, no doubt and nothing or no one will stop that part of the brain from seeking answers...

Me, I am curious. Will there be water near the so called ice caps of the moon? Time and that shot will tell, perhaps. There are as many positive consequences as the negative. Humans are not very trustworthy but they do have enormous possibilities.
Freedom's just another word...

So what does the man in the moon have to say about all this? Besides after the polar caps melt we'll be swimming in water...

A good investment, well maybe we should let the companies that are going to exploit it pay for the expense.

A few years back somebody figured out how to put advertisements on the moon
In the most wide-scale advertising attempt ever known, Google plans to brand its logo into the surface of the moon so that it is visible from Earth.

The search giant will pay the US government an estimated $1bn for the rights to the lunar land.

Apparently the idea still being kicked around as of last July
Sure, it's the world's largest billboard, but the idea of writing on the moon sounds like cartoonish supervillainy. It also raises the question: Are soulless multinational corporations really soulless enough buy ad space on the moon? Who knows how serious this company is, or if it's a simple cash grab, but if they succeed, those ads could be there for a long time. At least until we can send a mission up to tamp out the message. By that time the product the ad is plugging may have gone the way of Pan Am or Crystal Pepsi.

I think there are kinder, gentler ways to explore.
I hope they do not find water/ice there.
