Life Is Good

Post by Lightning Rod » February 5th, 2005, 11:28 pm

Life is good
our bellies are full
and sedation is adequate

sure, there are toothaches
and blue warrants
but

love is in the house
like a squirrel in the wall
I won't contemplate eminent eviction

lessons are always on the jagged horizon
god, not another learning experience
but, yes, life is good.
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

Your simile:

" . . .love is in the house/ like a squirrel in the wall . . ."

Is superb, LR.

Do you know Galway Kinnell's love poems?

This site is a selection of his poems. Your poem reminds me a bit of his ragged, yet totally precise, Irish/Scots tone.

Try" After Making Love . . ."

Brilliant simile in your poem--

Zlatko

gee, z-ko
you sure know how to get to a guy's heart
just flatter his simile
(works for me anyway)

actually, that line was pure reportage
we have a squirrel in the wall
doreen wants to evict the little critter
the other day I went out with a can of
foam insulation in my hand to seal the hole
I had alicia pound on the wall to scare him out
when he popped out of his hole
he was a cute little fucker and he looked me right in the eye
I didn't have the heart to seal up the hole
love is still in the house
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."
