Judgment Day

Post by Lightning Rod » December 28th, 2009, 2:54 pm

Judgment Day

death is the penalty
for not stealing enough life

making it a minor infraction
when it deserves high treason
embezzlers work harder
but mass murder gets the ink

cheat on your taxes
not on your prayers

to be a miserable misdemeanor
a faint failure at felony
to shoplift when you could rob the store
stars and sins rate by magnitude
not merely to err
but to err with flair

conspiracies are for pussies
we want good, honest hands-on crime
and why vandalize when mass destruction is so much fun?

did we complain and not denounce?
gossip behind the back of confrontation?
a little white lie of a life?
pleading not guilty in the sure and welcome rape of innocence?
have we pilfered but preferred to loot and plunder?

justice hates a petty thief, I know
but richly loves grand larceny

broken hearts are poor sad trophies
soon they shrink like amazon heads
and the dead mock the living from the comfort of the grave
but graves, like crimes and lawyers
are no warmer in Florida, just more expensive

you'll meet them one day,
St. Peter and Judge Roy Bean
they will deliberate over a
stiff drink and a hand of poker
test your wrap-sheet, feel your jacket
to decide if you are bad enough
for heaven

cheat on your taxes
not on your prayers
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."

test your wrap-sheet, feel your jacket
to decide if you are bad enough

justice hates a petty thief, I know
but richly loves grand larceny
that's pretty much it.

Shit now I wish I had replied sooner
Now I am just another face in the crowd

death is the penalty
for not stealing enough life
Guilty as charged.

I guess I will have to buy another book
if you keep writing like this.
