The Wind Shrieks

The lonely god
you can hear It in the high tension lines
Lost in a winter wonderland
Somewhere between Friona and Plainview

I remember the year I lost my ticket to ride
The year I became a paper back writer
Once you hear that wind
you can't forget

December 29 of the year Zero
I got 343 days to live
Mark twain came to me in a dream
and told me how it was
At least I will live to see anonther spring

It snowed here last night and much of the morning. The mountains are covered with snow and the fog veils the upper areas of these Franklin's... while the skies are draped in clouds offering a chilly, damp and dreary day where we are sitting at the big table near the panel heater, wasting away in cyber-ville while my loaf of bread bakes in the machine... too bad my timing was off. i made a soup yesterday, turkey and rice w/ a nice selection of veggies...turned out very nicely, with much appreciated kudos from SooZen, who had seconds as did I. There's enough left of the soup to have a bowl for lunch, but the bread will not be ready. Such is life for the expectant.

I got a CDL. I have had a truckers license for over thirty years. It is who I am or was for almost half my lifetime. I thought it expired this year. But I was wrong it expires in 2011. Feeling spooky to think of myself without that ticket to ride. I don't know if you have ever been homeless. Not something I ever want to be again. As long as I had that CDL I never had to fear being homeless. I could live out of a truck, a gypsy trucker.

I still get a chill when I think of that night in the panhandle. I have never heard a more terrifying sound then the sound of the wind in those high tension wires. A pulling 53' trailer. Winds gusting to 70 miles an hour. Maybe I exaggerate, maybe it was only 50 mph. Something as big as truck like a ping pong ball in that wind. A sailboat actually. The wind would grab it and move from one side of the road to the other. No place to hide. All I could do is ride it out, stay cool on my stool But it was the sound of the wind, that scaed me the most. I think I know what a banshee sounds like now.

I am up in the middle of the night when I should be sleeping. I deleted a long rant about the USS Liberty. What's the point? People bring up massacres from 170 years ago. Or two thousand years ago. I am trying to deal with the shit that happened in my own life time.

Some people remember the Alamo, some remember Masada or Wounded Knee.

I am trying to forget the USS Liberty.

Cup of coffee and a bagel with cream cheese and cinnamon
Rained here. I heard about the snow
Button up your over coat
take good care of your self
