The gulf stream protects our oysters & all we have to do is cultivate 'em & get 'em past that infernal oil spill. Is that a big "IF" or what? Inquiring minds want to know: when is the mess going to stop squirting into the sea? Anyone's guess?
Praying for all the poor fishermen and marine life now...See a follow up on my column.

I heard a happy rumor that the oil leak has been 'stemmed' I suppose I can start to see the wry humor in it all.
For some reason you just reminded me of this bit from Firesign Theatre.
Yes I was thinking about "oysterettes and clambasaurs and other small dying creatures."
BP says the impact will be very very modest.
Oh well. Have you ever had green oyster stew?
It is not bad. I had it in a a truck stop in Oregon little town called Pendelton . I saw it on the menu FRESH OYSTER STEW. I don't think that stuff comes in cans... I had to have some but when it came the oysters were green. The milk was white but the oysters were green. It smelled delicious but I was reluctant to eat it. The waitress told me it was something in their water that turned the oysters green... I sure could go for a bowl of fresh oyster stew right now

... During this extinct time, our earth was like a steam room - and no one, not even man, could get in. However, the oceans and the sewers were simmering with a rich protein stew and the mountains moved in to surround and protect them. They didn't know then that living, as we know it, was already taken over.
Animals without backbones hid from each other, or fell down. Clambasaurs and oysterettes appeared as appetizers - then came the sponges, which sucked up about 10 percent of all life. Hundreds of years later, in the late Devouring Period, the fish became obnoxious. Trailerbites, Chickerbites, and Mosqwitoes collided aimlessly in the dense gas. Finally, tiny edible plants sprang up in rows - giving birth to generations of insecticides and other small, dying creatures.
Millions of months passed and, 28 days later, the moon appeared. This small change was reflected best, perhaps, in the sand dollar, which shrank to almost nothing in the bottom of the pool. Where even dumb amphibians like catfish laid their eggs in the boiling waters, only to be gobbled up every 3 minutes by the giant sea orphans (which scared everybody).
And so, in fear and hot water, man is born:

I wish I could help jimbo
but we have already established that everything I know about women is wrong.
I know it is hard
I have read that Kerouac was not pleased to what his editors had done to On The Road.
That bit about men getting down on their knees to their women...
They cut it up and shortened it. Mangled it.

Keep on choogling, and may we all keep on canoodling with
our honey pots. Keep the old human race outracing the rats.
I sometimes think this is a ratrace, from which we like to pause
for station identification. The rising of the women is the rising of
the race in more ways than one. Onward! No more environmental
disasters like this one. Feed the world! Clean energy!

Bibimbap a lugey boogie boogie bam clang!
Let the air vibrate with the voice from the slang,
Let the ziggyboogiedoo flip into the waterslide flue,
Let the splish splash noogie get into your shoe...
Flip the flap a dap dang doodle
Let the fries come thru to your noodle,
Let the wild birds sing with your song,
"Cause we all moving on before much too long,
We are like the grass and we will be reaped,
So let us begin our nighttime creep...
Just like ole Finnegan, we slip into the continuum,
Never worry 'cause the rain'll wash out our brain,
To bring a little water on the subject
Dry clothes is no object ,
So let's get wet & wild like an unruly child ...
"Cause we are ready like Finnegan Freddy
Bibimbap a lugey boogie boogie bam clang!
Smoked too much rope, drank too much sang...

i said a prayer this morning at the veterans memorial in downtown st pete
while the homeless surrounded us and a homeless vet, Skip, read the names of tampa bay war dead in iraq-afghanistan thru a loudspeaker and i came home and tied yellow paper ribbons on my tree and cried alone again.
may 31 just turned 63
so far nobody from my family has anything good to say to me about my epic poem for my mother, just should that be in public view?
i pissed off my family again with a poem that i loved
my wife said i was lost inside my own mind

Sometimes I think about deleting all the intimate details, but I'd be doing a lot of deleting. I guess I just think that if it shapes you, than it is something of you. And if not mad about that, it's likely they'd be mad about something else, instead, not that I know that your family would...
`Do you know, I was so angry, Kitty,' Alice went on...`when I saw all the mischief you had been doing, I was very nearly opening the window, and putting you out into the snow! And you'd have deserved it, you

i loved that poem it healed me
it showed me how flayed the women in my
mother's family were
by the men
and the women on that side keep picking mad men
