Why argue & debate?

Post by Doreen Peri » June 19th, 2010, 11:21 am

When you post something on the internet, why do some people think you want to argue or debate when all you want to do is express yourself?

In real life, also, come to think of it.... people sometimes argue with each other when all one person wanted to do was just speak and say something they wanted to say, then someone challenges what they said and it starts an argument.

Why is that?

Response #1:
"Well, it's not like that in MY life, Doreen. People in my life don't argue with each other. We just don't. We are evolutionarily advanced and enlightened. We don't like arguing and so we don't argue with each other. We just respect each others opinions. It must be YOU!"

Response #2:
"What's wrong with debate? I enjoy a good debate! Why shouldn't I be able to disagree with your opinion?"

Hahahahaha! Just amusing myself with these fictitious responses... don't mind me.

:? :D   just talking to myself

I would wade across the Gulf of Mexico waist deep in oil to argue with you, doreen,
You know I would.

But we have already argued at length on the subject of argueing at length.

Me: No you wouldn't!
You: Yes I would.
Me: I doubt it.
You: Yes I would.
Me: Well it's stupid. I hate arguing.
You: No you don't.
Me: Yes I do.

Ad infinitum.

Hahahahahaha!

It would make a very funny skit, I think.

I refuse to argue with you on this subject, doreen
don't argue with me on this, you hate to argue, remember?
now if you want to debate on another subject
we can discuss which subject that should be
if we can come to an agreement at that time
as to which subject we should argue about
then we can move forward with our disagreement
in an agreeable way

Aha! Doreen fires her mightiest weapon, the final solution to every confrontation.....surrender. Then she is guaranteed the spoils of a bitter victory that now she can not only disagree with you, she can hate you as well. I'm being over dramatic and pugilistic, pardon me.

There is nobody in this world with whom I'd rather argue doreen. You are a blackbelt. I mean you are really good at it. Of course your trusty tactics of the false surrender and demurring that you don't argue at all, thank you very much, are a bit wasted on me because we have shared the ring so many times that I recognize those punches when I see them coming.

Lrod's Bogie immitation: I'd rather argue with you, baby, than agree with most people I know.

This is a joke thread. It's supposed to be funny! :)

That's why God created emoticons. 8) :P   :D

I'm not going to argue about it.

LOL!

YOU are a trip!

Thank you for proving my point in my initial post. Pretty darn funny! Hahahahahahaha!

Gotta love it!

And... I KNEW it would happen. I knew there would be some sucker who'd fall for the idiotic come-on of my initial humor and try to argue with me about it.

I can't stop laughing!

You are very accommodating! thank YOU!

I think it's just human nature. It happens in real life, too. People enjoy debating, I guess. It's not a "worst assumption" it's just an observation.

No matter what anybody says, someone's going to want to argue about it.

You agree with that, right?

heh

Doreen: No matter what anybody says, someone's going to want to argue about it.

NS: Try offering money, with no strings attached. I've yet to receive any opposition to that proposal.
