The purpose of the internet & this site

Post by Doreen Peri » February 13th, 2005, 10:27 am

I spent my entire day here yesterday. From the moment I woke up until the moment I went to bed.

Why? To try to explain why someone got booted? To reorganize forums to keep everybody happy? To get told I'm not managing the place right? To watch people argue and fight and berate each other? To watch friends make dramatic exits?

I don't know why.

All I know is this is not what the internet is supposed to be about. This is not what this site is supposed to be about. And it's not how I'm going to choose to spend my time any more, starting now.

I woke up and thought it was Saturday. I have started a painting and wanted to work on it this weekend. I haven't painted a painting in many years. I have also started painting my bathroom and wanted to work on it this weekend. There are a myriad of things I need to do and many more which I want to do. But there are only 24-hours in any given day and I know I can never fit it all in.

But it's not Saturday, it's Sunday. So one entire day of my life has *poof* disappeared. Along with angry friends who I apparently can't please.

This is an internet community. What is its purpose? The purpose of this particular community is to discuss the arts, create art in many forms, showcase it, and get feedback on it, plus have open-minded discussions about a variety of topics.

I'm not here to referee personal fights between people. The purpose of this site is not to air or host such fights. I am not God. I am not omnipotent or omniscient. I cannot read every post and make judgements about where the post should be posted, whether it's appropriate for these forums, etc.

If I find I have to spend another day like I did yesterday, I'm going to have to rethink the entire concept of this site and make a decision to either hire people to manage it or shut it down entirely, because my time is limited on this planet and I'm not interested in wasting one minute of it.

Please use this site for its intended purpose.

Fret not this place is managed more than well enough . Ignore the nay sayers and forge on. I myself enjoy the community and do not get involved in negative politics..........let us celebrate the joy of what is and let the others pass...

Gotcha Dor.
It couldn't be clearer
or more succinct
no more need be said....

I hope that you are painting right this minute, bathroom or canvas, no matter....

Thank you for this beautiful site. You will never be able (as you already have learned) to please us all, all the time so pleasing yourself is the best alternative and I am all into alternative healing.

Blessings...all that can be mustered.

Paint yourself silly, Doreen.

Tune in to the great Loving Vibe from above ( and around) you.

I'm reading two biographies of Philip K. Dick.

That's what he did-- produce, produce: 60 books in his short life ( of 53 years).

Only, stay away from amphetamines ( he used them to write)-- particularly if you have high blood pressure like Phil:

if i may be so bold as to butt in on this situation,

doreen, you need to relax and not take things so personally. studioeight is a great site and u shouldn't consider shutting it down.

obviously you should not have to tolerate extreme disruptive flames, but you are under no obligation i know of to try to refute everyone who disagrees with the decision to boot perezoso. you simply will not convince some people (like me), and that's okay.

unless the powers that be are coming down on you, why is there a need for constant monitoring that interferes w/ yr work? i may be ignorant of the rules and proposes of the internet.
I don't think 'Therefore, I am.' Therefore, I am.

Thanks, e-dog.

I think you'd really have to sit in this chair and see what I've seen to understand. I mean, I never would have understood it before I gave myself this job. It's not like "constant monitoring"... it's just like what happened. The emails from friends who said they wouldn't come here any more... seeing people getting insulted... all that...over and over and no, I really don't have to justify my actions (which weren't mine, they were LR's but I wanted to do it long ago)... but I DID need to make an announcement that I wasn't going to be able to handle what followed afterward... you missed it, because it's not here anymore because I removed it... As soon as ONE person, the ONLY person who's membership ever got deleted here, as soon as that happened, two members were at each other's throats berating each other and it was just too much for me.

I have to take it personally because this is a site I'm creating and I don't accept that type of thing in my life. I just don't want to broadcast people's personal verbal assaults on each other .... and so I made my statement. Plus, I reorganized the fireplace/dumpster area and all of it was quite time consuming. And draining.

As I told you before, I loved your debates with peresozo and I wish they would be able to continue. But how do people react when I let them know that I've invited him back to come post under another name if he refrains from verbal assaults? Geesh. Unbelievable.

Everything that's too time consuming can interfere with my work. Why? Because my work takes time and there are only so many hours in a day.
