Jazz gig cancelled

Post by Doreen Peri » September 23rd, 2010, 9:04 am

left my voice, my
head and my sax in
the back of a van
somewhere downtown

the man pulled jojo
over, he freaked, took off
like a crackhead jettin'
from the fed

all it was
was an expired tag
but the lag got us good

no jazz tonight by the
waterfront, the 'hood's
got a cone of silence

gonna have to go
to mamma's house
instead, get some vittles,
ain't been fed like mamma
can feed me for months

damn jazz jam
don't have a jazz band

jojo went loco,
vivian's lost her scat,
fat cat club owner's suing us
for breakin' a contract

lost my drive
lost my ride
wonder why i got outa bed
damn that jojo lost his
cranked up head

no gig tonight
catch ya next friday
at dan's
B-Y-O-B

jojo got himself
some free room
and board
better him
than me

seeya next
week, we'll
be blowin', babe,
blowin' a jam, man

mamma's got some
home cookin'
damn it'll be good
to be home

you took me back to 'get smart!'
the cone of silence... heh.

jojo lost his mojo? what's one night?
damn it's always good to be home..
that much is always true.

I would not mind living there, laying in bed listening to the fog horns like I was back at eastern and caroline streets again.

That neighborhood my Lowell if only I had his gift for poetry.

I wish I could paint a picture for her dino,

Fell's Point
Fell St off Thames St, a dead end cobblestone street leading out to a wharf in Baltimore harbor
I could hear it there on a foggy night with sax playing railroad tracks glistening in the light from the gas street lamps.. I would dread being out on that wharf on a quiet foggy night. rather be at home, rolling a joint listening to the fog horns

I don't believe anymore that we will ever sit down at that coffee shop and have that cup of coffee and talk, but sometimes I still think about it when I want to imagine the future.

I been thinking a lot about kayaks lately. something to think about except for the forlorn old rags, Kerouac did not have to drink himself to death, what the fuck was his hurry he could have just lived another thirty years and found the same despair.

but he had that Catholic golden parachute, I wonder do Buddhists live healthier lives than Catholics

ogh god doreen
very sorry so crazy for me these days
I highjack anybody

sorry

Hey doll, this wrapped me up good last night,
feeling warm, a sax to fall asleep on.

That mellow, sweet sounding sax carrying the rest of the band beyond themselves, cancelled out by jojo mojo tokin' when he shoulda been payin'A-tenSHUN. Ah, well, fatback and black-eyed peas, fried chicken, hot biscuits and cane syrup, yeah, mama's good cookin', an' like the man said, it's just one night ...
This was great, Lady Doreen! Sue
