The Trouble With Flowers

Post by jim turner » November 11th, 2010, 6:57 pm

The trouble with flowers
is their superiority,
accepting the inevitable.
Even as they fade
I have heard them laugh at me,
fretting about a touch of gray,
the latest wrinkle in my brow,
tracks the crows have made
at the corners of my eyes.
Did I imagine I saw roses sneer,
arrogant princesses fluttering
petals like fingers at peasantry?
They make me so angry
sometimes I’m tempted
to cut them off at the ground.
But then I’d have to give them
water, like a panacea,
trying to keep them from doing
what flowers do.

no contest
can't win with flowers

flowers have the ultimate say in beauty. but then there is even more beauty in the "flaws" of the human face...like crows feet and freckles and crooked teeth. we fret about time doing its damage, but we just don't understand how to appreciate & embrace beauty like flowers do.
