A Thirst

Post by jim turner » December 1st, 2010, 2:41 pm

Just wondered if you knew
that old bartender? What’s his name?
Tended bar there at the corner,
the tavern where that little market is.

He could clean and polish a glass
till you’d swear it disappeared.
Could hardly see it till he poured in
one of his miracles. Even then
it was the miracle you saw.

Any idea where he got to?
I’d like him to try his hand
on this old tumbler of mine.
Years of finger smudges, you see?
Couple of chips, a little crack,
crusty inside, you know. Guess
I tend to let things slide a bit.

I’d like to drink from it again--
at least just one more time.
I just can’t seem to get it clean.
