What is happening to me?
Am I awake? Where am I?
Complete blackness consumes me
Okay, listen….what do you hear?
Nothing, wait.
I hear something-A heart beat
It must be mine, I feel it pulsating in my ears
Something else, breath…mine
It is my chest rising and falling.
What do you smell?
It is the smell of rain on dirty concrete
On a hot humid Summer day
What do you feel?
My arms are stretched out wide
There is a cool breeze on my naked arms.
Fabric enveloping my body as the wind picks up before
It stops completely
My feet…high heels?
I can hear the echoing thud they make
As I ungracefully walk forward.
What is that??? A light?
I begin to run towards it.
What is that? STOP!!!!
It’s a box, no a large glass cube
Confusion sets in, I close my eyes briefly
I hear a new sound over my heavy breathing and racing heart beat
Screaming, terror
I open my eyes to stare in disbelief
There is a woman in the cube
Her feet are bare
Her dress is torn, barely hanging on her
Mud and blood intermingle across the entirety of her body
Her fingers raw I see the resemblance with my hand beside hers
Her face scarred by deep slashes
Mostly hidden by tangled hair
Wait, I know those eyes
They are mine.

better to write
than live within this nightmare,
alone

It's not a happy poem for a warm welcome,
but a strong thought in stronger words
and what you share is beautiful and valuable
like a prophetic voice screaming
Sleeper, awake!
while hanging like a heavy branch in the swaying grace of a cloudless day.
Thank you.

Truly a nightmare. Mine aren't like that one. Mine won't let me do what or go where I want.
