I have a daughter who has OCD. No, she has never been diagnosed, but trust me; a mother knows.
She is obsessive about punctuality.
If she says she will be somewhere at a given time, she is compelled to be there on time or early.
She is obsessive about keeping her cats healthy and well cared for.
She is compelled to give them the very best care and takes them faithfully to the vet for their annual check-up.
She is obsessive about being reliable. She sometimes has worked two or three jobs at a time. A day job, an evening job, and a weekend job.
She is compelled to be there no matter how hard it is to keep up the pace.
Although she is struggling to keep her head above water, she is obsessive about finding others who are less fortunate than herself.
She is compelled to be kind to them and do all she can to make their life a little better.
She is obsessive about her only child.
She is compelled to see him happy and will do everything that is humanly possible to see to it that he is.
She is obsessive about making the roads a safer place to be for everyone.
She is compelled to teach all her driving students to drive as safely and as sanely as they can.
So, diagnosed or not, she definitely has OCD. And I am so proud.
A mother knows.

Yes, I can relate to the subject of this fine poem. I have a son and daughter with this condition. You have described it well here.

Yes, she is one of the nicest people I know. Compulsively so. I don't think that is a bad compulsion to have. I'm pretty proud of her, though she sometimes tends to burn her candle from both ends. She just never stops. There are always things to be done and people who need help.
