one for Don Van Vliet

Post by revolutionrabbit » December 17th, 2010, 9:48 pm

that mask of the trout
what was that all about
that replica of the mask
of the fish face of that place
where

that singin sound of bats and cats
of old tin can mountains
and freak out Joshua trees
in the weird moon lit background

of deserts of the imagination
deserts where Captain Beefheart
formed his tripped out view of reality
that cry crazy of howling wolves

of wash boards and L.A. freeways
smokin that stack lightning
and chasing them alley cat women
around creepy midnights moan

all that tin tear drop stuff
that moustache man singing about
high weirdness on the air waves
like blues painted in greens and browns
strange birds and alien clowns

Oh, Diddy Wah Diddy
and that twangy wang dang guitar
harp playin between chunky lyrics
Don Van Vliet belts the Wah Diddy

"Lick my decals off baby"

that growly voice like gold rush miners
shaking fools gold nuggets in that saucer pan
the nugs rattlin around in his words
that rattle shape and roll off his tongue
and he sung them from some stream bed

that was in his far out radar station radio head
and always lookin for some dat, "Low Yo Yo Stuff"
tough enough, tough enough, show enough
take it easy Captain, take it to the other side
farewell to that battered voice of Beefhearts arts

it was a damn good imagination
parody of the world, and where is it now?
where is the cosmic creativity?

if you promise not to tell, that your arms are too small"..

where is what now? You mean the creative energy of the Surrealists, Beats, and the psychedelic awakening of the late 60's? Well, it is still with us, it's just that
the bottom of the Kali Yuga is really hitting the bottom. And as far as the internet, yeah well, where is it?

"I don't wanna kill my China pig". from "Trout Mask Replica"... Captain Beefheart was a hoot! I loved the guy and he'll be missed. He and Frank Zappa used to
be buds. It is an end of an era. See below: China Pig link--
