Slower than stars...
Slower than stars move
felt her hold loosen
on my hand in hers.
Only afterward
saw her stilled fingers
curled on mystery.
Do they gather stars
to seed memories
on these darkest nights?
Mine, finding nothing,
have nothing to hold
and will not let go.

felt her hold loosen
on my hand in hers.
Only afterward
saw her stilled fingers
curled on mystery.
Do they gather stars
to seed memories
on these darkest nights?
Mine, finding nothing,
have nothing to hold
and will not let go.

jim, wow, i just held her hand and told her
of my love and gratitude, it was all i could do
and man, that is a hard place to be
so utterly helpless.

Re: Slower than stars...
I cannot answer the question but the poem certainly has that sense of sadness and captured so well in your words.
Re: Slower than stars...
mystery and loss skillfully woven into a quilt that warms us, but we still feel a draft somewhere.........well done, jim

Re: Slower than stars...
your words are beautiful, Jim...I'd missed this one, so I'm glad I got to hold it briefly now
One glory of the sun
Another of the moon
Another glory of the stars
And none of them change soon
They differ— all the stars—
They differ in their light
They differ in their glorious
Adornments of the night
A soloist— the sun
An echoist— the moon
And comfortable to bridge the two
A simple starry tune
By sun, they fade away
By moon, they seem so small
But like a resurrection tale
Their stature’s standing tall
To let the sun be burnt
To let it wan, the moon
Till glory, glory, hallelu—
God bless again the boon
One glory of the sun
Another of the moon
Another glory of the stars
And none of them change soon
They differ— all the stars—
They differ in their light
They differ in their glorious
Adornments of the night
A soloist— the sun
An echoist— the moon
And comfortable to bridge the two
A simple starry tune
By sun, they fade away
By moon, they seem so small
But like a resurrection tale
Their stature’s standing tall
To let the sun be burnt
To let it wan, the moon
Till glory, glory, hallelu—
God bless again the boon
